((I think you're all neat, too.))

As someone who cares not even a little for Tajaran lore, I'm biased, too. I legitimately don't care about this setting, don't have (and don't plan to get) the Tajara whitelist, and don't want to be forced to care about this setting periodically. It's heavily based on a whitelisted species, which boosts the bias toward Tajara. There's even species restrictions on these jobs just for Tajara. There's a serious issue with that. No job on our server is restricted to a whitelisted species. Humans, the default, get access to everything. This setting takes the default away from Humans (a species everyone can choose) and puts it onto Tajara (a species not everyone can choose) and puts them on a planet very far from the rest of the races. Looking at our starmap, you can see the setting is being shoved hundreds of light years away from most of the lore. There's a reason Tau Ceti works. All species CAN make it there (it's fairly central), and have a REASON to go there (fairly liberal, relatively safe, plenty of corporations to sell your soul to). Why would any Federation Skrell want to go to Adhomai? In reality, they don't. It's wartorn and Skrell lore states the only Representatives Skrell has for Adhomai is one for the moon and one for the wildlife. Skrell could not care less about Tajara issues. Will Unathi want to go to a place that is literally freezing all the time? Probably not. What's the gain in doing so? Now of course, I can't really speak for other species, because I'm biased toward Skrell, but I can point out this hole. Echoing Fowl's post, the concept of being able to plop in maps for big events is amazing. We should pursue that. Imagine if we could play out some big lore events as some of the major players, but not have it affect our "main" setting of the NSS Aurora. It's a massive undertaking, and every "event" map/structure change would take a ton of effort for only a few rounds of use.

I thought the intent of the space bears was that they were genetically-modified and experimented on actual bears. These look a bit more like robots than organic. Hivebots look spook though.

The exact same as they've always done when there's no Heads: use discretion and protect the crew.

All civilian jobs are very much entry-level. Chef and bartender are the first jobs that expose players to using the wiki. It's important that cooking and bartending remain understandable and relatively simple. I mentioned this before, but more complex does not always mean more fun. Do I think magical microwaves are silly? Yeah. Do I think adding complexity is the way to go? Not necessarily to the extent this post suggests. Does slicing tomatoes and dicing onions (onions themselves are already coded and sprited, so don't worry about adding them) and adding them to burgers sound like fun? Yes! Totally, go for it! But think of complexity like... a sandwich. Making a sandwich shouldn't be difficult. Everyone should know how to make a sandwich. You throw slice of turkey and cheese between two slices of bread, and you have a perfectly fine sandwich. Even a kindergartener can do it! However, the option to make a more robust sandwich is there. Say, I want to make it grilled. Or I want to use peanut butter and slices of banana. Or I want to make it a triple decker extreme sandwich! But that ability doesn't come at the cost of a 6 year old being proud of their sandwich. If we handle complexity by not raising the skill floor, but raising the skill ceiling, we'll really be getting somewhere in my eyes.

Perhaps instead of the headset having a security channel, every department officer has a special stationbound radio that tunes only to the sec channel? That way, if they want to speak on the sec channel, it has to be a decisive call (holding it in their hand), but they are still in the loop of anything that goes on elsewhere.

I don't think this suggestion is going to solve that. What it would create is: A notice comes up that radiation storm is on the way Everyone who cares runs to find the nearest screwdriver by bombarding cargo/science to print one off, finding an engineer and demanding to be let inside a hatch, or running into the elevator to get to tool storage and grab a screwdriver and hide out on the surface Everyone stands around for 2-3 minutes staring into space or talking to each other, waiting for it to end so they can get back to their round. The same exact scenario, with added unnecessary baggage. More difficult and time-consuming != more interactive and fun. It usually just means more annoying. Like Carver says, it's meant to be a possible distraction and hiccup. It's not meant to be this huge event that takes ages to make sure you're safe. Do we need more events that are? Maybe. Right now only blob comes to mind as anything that can be formidable. Maybe spiders, if they're in a place you don't expect. But on the same coin, perhaps we don't. Perhaps just blob is well and truly big enough. Depends on your outlook. The common man hasn't needed crowbars for power outages in a long while. Doors revert to their open state.

I'd be down for something like this. Gives the chef a reason to leave the kitchen, because being confined can suck. And brings me back to the old Harry Potter days. "Candy from the trolley?"

As a cargo main who never has anyone to talk to, I think it'd be nice to have an officer to talk with (assuming they don't alt-tab). Honestly, I think giving it a shot has merit. I don't like the idea of them not being able to communicate with one another on a channel, though, and the HoS not having command over them. If the Code raises to Red, the HoS should get default control over the departmental officers. But that would be a policy thing that could take place down the line. Test it. I think it'd be neat to give a small change for a short time.

You can macro it, like Amory says.

Two things I noticed in the few minutes I have: 1. Burritos look too neat. What burrito is such a perfect log, and can I order from there always because mine always look like someone threw it across the room 2. The broken bottle sprite still uses the old look of the bottles

This would in no way "take away" from roleplay. It's all still roleplay. It's spicing up roleplay in a roleplaying game on a high roleplay server... with more roleplay. There's nothing inherently wrong with that. There's a reason humans don't tell "the story of the day where nothing happened." Those slice of lifes don't a great folktale make. The best stories come from an external pressure (that would be antags or crew-on-crew conflict for us) on the heroes (that would be the station for us). This suggestion is saying "let's add a third possible external pressure" same as we see in the random events (such as a blob, which is the only random event that really does anything and isn't immediately stifled). And for those of us that would rather not interact with the 'actors', we can do exactly as we've always done and ignore it in favor of doing our job or talking with coworkers or something. But changes in the way a day is planned to go isn't bad. It's natural. Getting caught up in something else can be great, and it sometimes bothers me that people are inflexible in that regard. But at the end of the day, it's a game, and you should be allowed to play it how you want, even if that means not playing it. I think it would be neat to have small events like this pop up occasionally. Right now, they're usually spawned in by hand by admins. The problem would be, the random event would probably be considered fairly large, and those only fire later into the round, which reduces the amount of roleplay opportunity they can have. Joining as an actor 15 minutes before the transfer is called is no fun.

BYOND Key: Conspiir Character name: Nazret Naxxir Item name: Caladius Cape Why is your character carrying said item to work? Nazret and Laurens Caladius have been friends for five years. They moved to Tau Ceti together along with two other friends, Mananor and Baron. On the day of Nazret’s first shift, Caladius gifted one of his capes to Nazret. The capes were originally a gift from his own father, and he doesn’t wear them. Item function(s): It’s just clothing. It’s based off of the dominia cape. Item description: A fine Dominian cape tailored for a very short person. It is decorated in the purple colors of the Caladius House. Item appearance: A slightly-too-large Dominian cape with purple. I have dmis I'm still adjusting slightly. EDIT: Dmi is finished How will you use this to better interact with crew and/or stimulate RP? Why does a Skrell have Dominian clothes? More importantly, why is it Caladius House clothing? Nazret’s history with Laurens Caladius is tightly entwined. Questions will surely be raised and, when they are, Nazret can point to the cape and explain. Additional comments: Finally made that Dominian Skrell I’d been joking about for how long. nazretscapemob.dmi nazretscapeobj.dmi

[1 dismissal] Remove 2/3rds vote requirement and just make it 50/50.
Conspiir replied to BurgerBB's topic in Rejected Policy
50/50 votes were the norm once upon a time and it was changed. This may come as a surprise, but antag rounds were bad when they ended at the 2 hour mark, too. Making transfer votes happen more commonly at 2 hours will not fix the problem you want to fix. It may in fact make it worse as antags are further pressured to make things happen nownownow for the gratification of the 51%. An antags could be doing something really neat, but if it hits the 2 hour mark and a couple people don't know it's happening or don't want to be involved (it's a big station, not everyone can be included in everything, all the time) then that antag's setup and execution are ruined and there's no going back from that. There's no redo. It becomes a new round. 2/3 until 3 hours is as fair as it gets. It gives time for potential and doesn't take away from anyone that is doing a project not related to the antag. -
An interesting work-around I've seen people use is by labelling their PDA. If you get a hand labeler label the PDA (on lunch), then that will show up on the messaging tab when anyone wants to send a message. It'll be like "Urist McSec (Security Cadet) (on lunch)". When you're done, you remove the label. So if you can manage to snag one, that can work for what you might want to accomplish personally.

I support changing the sprite. Right now carps and sharks remind me of playdough-esque toys. These ones look a little less like they would be called space carp, though. They look like wasps. Bug-like. Everyone knows space carp. We can't just retcon years of carp by turning them into bugs, can we? Perhaps a bit more importantly for me: being able to instantly tell the difference between a carp and a shark is incredibly important. Right now, sharks are a totally different color and look like they're on steroids, which is great for someone like me who needs clear indications. These two look too alike. Maybe return your shark sprite to a blue? Would this also be changing the plushie and hologram versions?

It feels like the want here is conflict and the grasp is at something many people don't want the conflict to be about. Maybe we should find another type of conflict for humans instead of this one?

Hello, I'd like to bring up four points here if I may. 1. In the past 100 years, women in America have managed to gain a hell of a lot of rights. Too many for me to want to research when I should be writing my essay, so I'll leave it there. There are more women serving in government than ever before. If in 400 years, women cannot manage to get equal pay, I will eat my own shit. I will actually, physically, in whatever afterlife may or may not exist, as a corpse, eat my own shit. Keep a record of this. When we meet in party-on hell zombieland, you can show this to me and I will keep my word. 2. Humans don't exactly have this issue right now. ATLAS is all "Humans first", but... it sounds like this is becoming "Humans first, but not women they aren't human lmao". Humans are becoming more accepting. That's what happens with time, people. It's a natural progression. When humanity meets aliens, you can bet they'll all think "Damn, we better shape up. We're all in this together." To further push this, the first aliens they met were Skrell, which... 3. Skrell have no gender distinction. Nothing. All Skrell are equal and you are "better" by being better. You can be an egg layer or you can be a sperm donor and it doesn't matter. So why is a wage gap being applied to a species that has no distinction? And why would they accept something like that? Zyymurgy's got the better idea here. Apply it to species that it makes sense to, because... 4. You make a distinction for "neuter", on top of any existing species, loyalty, etc. alterations. Thiiiiis… doesn't make sense. Species that are neuter are all neuter. Reducing pay for neuters is just doubling-down on the species wage gap. You get a reduction for being a Vaurca, and then you get a further reduction for being neuter. ???????? You get TWO reductions for being what you are. ??????????? If you want to lower the amount Vaurca and Dionae get even further, do it by their species. Okay, points I wanted to make have been dumped in for now, and I appreciate anyone taking the time to consider them.

I came in here wondering if anyone thought the term "Bio-physician" didn't make intrinsic sense and found yes, Resi and I are in the same boat. Biophysician literally means "Life Doctor" and doesn't actually explain what they do. Every medical doctor is a biophysician. Like calling someone a "biologist", you learn absolutely nothing about what they do (someone that works with plants is as much a biologist as someone that works with bacteria or someone that works with insects) If you want to nail it down, go with Biochemist or Virochemist (I like that one) or similar.

Of course there's a reason. Two I can think of right now before class. 1. It's a space suit. They aren't skin-tight. The sprites for jackets/coats are not meant for this. How is a flannel jacket supposed to fit over a RIG (both realistically and visually)? 2. RIGs in particular have a LOT (a LOT) of moving parts. Things retract and deploy. A jacket (and a cloak, which is why I was against cloaks doing this same thing) can get caught.

It was horrendously impossible to get Asian characters because your choices were white-as-a-vampire, grey-as-a-corpse, ashy brown, and chocolate rain. Everyone was washed out. Pump them with color and bring back the ability to be Asian.

Hard agree with VT. There's no point in supplying it in the vendor at all. NT wouldn't pay that much for vendor food and try to resell it. Literally no one will buy that when they will buy other things in the vendor. It might be stronger to have them permanently out-of-stock, but harder code-wise because of the vendor refills.
