[Accepted] TealPinipped Command app
Doxxmedearly replied to TealPinniped's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I understand. HoS is a stressful role. But all command can and will be that stressful on hectic rounds. You HAVE to communicate better under pressure; easier said than done, I know, as someone with a command whitelist. Please use the feedback to improve this, since it seems a few people have similar experiences. My end goal is to see you do well as a command staff, not try to block you from getting it. -
-1 Lying about your stance on vertical spacemen. Jo is way too focused on good RP and making enjoyable characters for me to support this mod app. You don't even main antag, or powergame constantly. How can I trust a mod to make judgements when handling Urist McAntagmain if they're not one themselves? Also this is clearly just a thinly veiled attempt to complete the ritual to leave the server. Nice try, jackass, now get back in that malf round. I bound you here as HARPI and you'll die when I say you can die.

[Accepted] TealPinipped Command app

I didn't have a great experience with Rijiikir. During a recent malf round when he was in science with myself and another roboticist he was just... sort of wordlessly trying to bash his way out instead of addressing us to open the door? And then followed us to our lab and just started snagging stuff, like an analyzer. Communication felt very poor and I honestly thought it was just someone else in a HoS voidsuit until I saw the ID. Please remember that even when things get hectic, it's still a roleplay server. You shouldn't be telebatonning the window when there's two people who can let you out. The whole time you were with us you were awkwardly silent. Not a +1/-1 since it was just one experience, but do look out for that. You are a coordinator. Communicate. -
I'd like to report an error on your engineering checklist (Engine setup subsection, item 17). It contains a statement that is as false as it is bold. There's no way even the entire station could eat that much power, let alone some machines.
-
I feel like Appliances Technician isn't necessary. They'll lack for things to do and step on engineering's toes (Since much of the time they don't have much to respond to, either). Things don't really break down that much and airlock doors/cameras feels like it should be strictly in engineering's domain. A cool idea, but it fills a niche we don't have much call for. Sanitation Technician, however, is pretty cool. It feels distinct from Janitor while adding the neat flavor an alt-title should have. I'd love to see that one added.

Gotta agree with cybs and everything they said sums up my thoughts eloquently. I don't think I've yet to experience a renegade going valid-mode on traitors. It's a different flavor of spice entirely to traitor and I appreciate that. The rounds I've observed had been really cool. I definitely agree it would be cool to see renegades placed in other gamemodes that are paranoia based, like ling, vamp, borer, etc.

Definitely would be easy. A cute little addition. I like it. We'd just need a suitable sound. Just be sure that a spam filter goes on to prevent filling up the chat and murdering everyone's ears.

That will be my next project after my hallucination rework. Fear not, I also wish for this.

You know how the edit button works, no need to make two posts a minute apart. Anyway this is a fun little tradition and it's cute and enjoyable. Skull's right. We all gotta chill. Besides, it's about time N/A got recognized.

[+2D, BIN 11JAN] Please add a system to opt out of round types.
Doxxmedearly replied to FreshRefreshments's topic in Archive
My question was more from a mechanical standpoint. Would the game not start, or would it start with less? When people unready because they do not like it, the game will not start for lack of players. Is that how you would envision this functioning? That is, if the "I don't want to play this gamemode" numbers reduce the number of players below the required amount (ie: 25 for crossfire), the game does not start as if they were not readied? I'm not asking about fair to the players right now (That's a discussion I'm sure will blossom further in this thread). I'm just trying to get a feel for how this would work from a mechanical standpoint with regards to if rounds start and if so, with how many people. I wanted to see how you envisioned that working first. -

What do you feel is the best solution in the case of this happening: Crossfire is in the secret rotation. 25 person minimum. Say we have 28 people readied up and enough antags to fill merc and raider teams. However, crossfire is a mode a lot of people dislike. Say for instance ten of those people have "don't put me in a crossfire round" option enabled, leaving 18 people, 8 of which would be antags. What happens, then? Does the gamemode not start, or does it start with seven less people than it should have? (Or is there another possibility/option?) I only ask because this is a situation that will inevitably come up. What do you feel would be the best way to handle such things if this suggestion were to be implemented? Personally, unsure how to feel about this. I don't think meta's a concern. On one hand, I feel for what you mean and why you'd want this. On the other, it brings up some issues with gamemodes either not starting or being stale due to lack of players (as well as potential balance issues). -
I'm almost positive the "can't use with handcuffs" was already implemented.
-
Those are fair points. If anything I'm glad this thread has clarified the process for us non-staff so we can understand how these choices are made by y'all. I had no idea that anything but traitor for autotraitor had bearing on being made antag after roundstart.
-
Twice I've been made Head Rev by an admin mid-round without any announcement, and without any rev/loyalist prefs on. "Turn your prefs off" is kind of a nuisance considering you'd have to go in and remember to flick them on and off when instead you can just go "Well I don't have any ideas for a ling/vamp/cult gimmick at this moment so I'll just latejoin to avoid that pick for this round." Seems like picking people who don't feel like antagging at the moment/don't have a gimmick in mind might lead to poor quality antags. I don't think it's obvious at all that it applies to mid-round antagging (Apart from traitor obviously) since autotraitor is the only mode that actively drafts from people in-round after the round begins. Didn't have any idea about the button matt posted, either. This is new information to me and probably a few others and likely the OP. I don't feel like it's a big deal to ask that staff try to remember to make an announcement for a special role and gather volunteers before clicking the button.

Defanged Scrubber Backflow Event Feedback
Doxxmedearly replied to Aticius's topic in Completed Projects
Please don't misrepresent my post. The whole of it stated that I felt like it was more important to adjust reagent toxicity than to remove them from the scrubbers. I also stated that I disagreed with how you were accomplishing that goal because you're removing things that aren't deadly. I also don't see where paint is harmful to ingest or get in blood (for some reason?) Not toxic. Cleaner is fine - who cares if it manages to clean its own mess? Janitor lucked out. Hyperzine/ipecac is fine. Other medications might be fun to add, too. Holywater I actually do support the removal of because it's weird to even have in there; everything else can be explained as medical/science/kitchen waste, but holy water? Also I don't believe sterilizine is toxic either. Not sure why it's being removed. -
I do like the bolder colors of Wezzy's aviator "on" states but overall I believe I will support a revert.

Defanged Scrubber Backflow Event Feedback
Doxxmedearly replied to Aticius's topic in Completed Projects
We should adjust the toxicity of the reagents or remove them from spawning (and possibly replace them with something else). I witnessed a plant-b-gone spray kill someone in, no joke, five minutes due to cascading organ failure. Medical could not save them by the time it took them to walk from the kitchen to there. That does not facilitate RP; it ruins it by rng nuking you from the round on that character. I don't believe it's knee-jerk to suggest we should change it after witnessing that, even if it was one instance, since that is a little ridiculous. Agreed with doc that it seems to be an unintended side-effect of brainmed, since before none of these things posed much of a danger of killing you. Toxicity levels of the reagents should be looked at IMO since now a spritz of plant-b-gone can ruin someone's organs. Fix the root of the chems or reduce the amount sprayed. For the PR as-is, you're removing a lot of interesting chemicals. And also trying to spawn cheese wheels? I gotta go with alb here, and I don't see much reason to remove space drugs, paint, luminol, or hot chocolate either. Too much "de-fanging" IMO. -
I think by now people know me and Shenaanigans are close IRL so potential for bias disclaimer and all. I can absolutely attest to the honesty of what she says in her app. She has shown time and time again her ability to come up with creative ideas and writing, but most importantly she sticks to the things she starts. She’s been a staff member for several large online roleplaying groups, both in terms of moderation and also coming up with settings, lore, and IC arcs; she has quite a bit of experience when it comes to collaborating with a group and working as a team. When the roleplaying groups faded or split up, she was always one of the last ones remaining, trying to do what she could to make sure the remaining folks had a good time. She has experience with having to talk to people who are causing issues in roleplays, which I think will translate well to a deputy position where she may have to discuss a whitelist issue with someone. She has showcased her passion for Unathi lore and her ability to create interesting ideas through her characters. I don’t believe there will be an issues with her receiving criticism, either of her own work or the species as a whole. Shenaanigans is not a person who applies for these positions on a whim and I believe she intends to stick to it for the long run, as she has shown to me consistently when engaging in roleplays and creative endeavors. I also feel that as a newer player, she can bring a fresh perspective to the current state of Unathi lore, without having preconceptions from past lore shifts or debates. Dominia lore has historically had a controversial place on the server, and requires a lot of coordination, as you said. I would expect some resistance on all sides. Plus, it falls more under human lore domain to my knowledge, though someone can feel free to correct me. However, highlighting the difference between the two cultures is certainly an excellent idea, and one that can be felt in-game. Again, an excellent idea, but also keep in mind that some of your ideas may not make it to the wiki due to trying to keep things concise. I, personally, would love to see more about day-to-day life for a typical unathi. I think your ideas are modest and reasonable; you don’t want to come in with sweeping overhauls and seem to want to settle in with what’s already there and expand on it for the players on server. I think your past experience lends well to the duties of a lore deputy here. Questions, then: How do you feel about reviewing whitelists, as you may be asked to as a deputy? If you had a disagreement with Marlon about a certain aspect of lore, how would you approach it? I know that’s vague. What issues, large or small, if any, do you have with current non-Dominian Unathi lore? If, hypothetically, you were not allowed to work on Dominian lore, would you still be interested in the position? How do you feel like you would handle not critiques, but just downright insults of your work or the state of the species? What are your thoughts on Aut’akh and their current place in lore?

Coder Application - Myazaki
Doxxmedearly replied to Myazaki's topic in Developer Applications Archives
Good code, excellent code reviews, great attitude, and works well with others. Feel like I could learn a lot from them and they definitely have what it takes to be a developer here. Easy +1 -
Seems like it, but isn't. Peridaxon is a very expensive medication to produce, with low healing amounts and a very small overdose threshold. It's the tricordrazine of organ repair. Peri is great for broad-spectrum repair or small damages. If anything we need MORE organ-specific medications to reduce the reliance on peridaxon. This is entirely incorrect information. Yeah this would probably be fine. All in all I have to agree with others in that I don't think the medication system is inaccessible. Medical staff are happy to teach people and you really only need to know a handful of them to be an effective doctor or nurse. A few renames and removal of a couple medications doesn't really provide much more accessibility, and frankly I have to agree that "Infexicillin" is pretty memey.
-
Some traumas are pretty memey, but the idea of having other disabilities, traumas, or health issues as a character option is a pretty good idea.
-
Overall excellent changes, really cool. Lot of thought clearly went into it and I really do enjoy what you've done with it. Having it be monopolized by Jargon and Zeng-Hu is probably my favorite part and I love that it takes time and money. Because I know it'll come up, I assume basic NT health insurance does NOT cover cloning costs?
