  1. Yeah, they need pain immunity. As it stands a changeling really has no way to escape from security once the stun baton comes out, making it one of the weakest on-station antagonists.
  2. As per my in-character promise, I am now here. Over several rounds I have both observed and played in - both as command staff and regular staff - Shen has proven herself time and time again to be an effective and engaging head of personnel. It's fascinating to see a head of personnel that has come up from the ranks of cargo in a fairly organic manner. I hope to see Samsara as a head of personnel for months to come, and fully believe that Shen has what is needed to pass her trial with flying colors. +1
  3. These are a huge improvement, frankly. Just avoid the metagrudge bro............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
  4. Our current floor sprites are horrifically dated, and this is a vast improvement. This has my full support.
  5. Hello, supporter of BRAINOS’ sprite here. I stopped objecting to Wezzy’s replacement due to assuming that a version taking in the community’s feedback was being worked on, either by Wezzy or BRAINOS. Since one is, seemingly, not being worked on, I support a full revert to the BRAINOS sprite. The support is there, if we take this thread as evidence.
  6. Cybsthe is somebody I know can provide quality RP in roles they play, and I find their take on a tajara to be very interesting. Any questions I would have asked have already been answered, and this application has my definitive support. +1
  7. I agree with this. Having been there for the head of staff antagonist round Cybs is referring to, I can safely say it was one of the least fun rounds I have ever had: anything and everything that could be used to fight against the combination of an antagonist RD, two antagonist security officers, and two ninjas was rapidly shut down by the hellish array of antagonist armed with the most frightening equipment science could produce and supported by two ninjas. Any coordination done over the radio was shut down by the RD, our PDAs were cut off, security was either imprisoned or murdered, ERT was unavailable, and even an emergency shuttle call seemed to be out of our reach. My other experiences with antagonist heads of staff have been equally unpleasant, ranging from being called into their office for "a discussion of your projects" then walking out with half of my blood missing, watching a RD vampire turn their entire department into a coven, and seeing a traitor CMO implant people in surgery with explosives for reasons beyond the pale. Perhaps the worst part of head of staff antagonists is that they absolutely ruin a department's coordination unless a robusto steps up to the plate and puts their foot down to coordinate a department while lacking authority, command channel access, and access. I'd rather lose the possibility of good on-station head of staff antagonist gimmicks than have to suffer through another round like the one Cybs and I experienced. You can't really coordinate a department and teach its new players while also playing a traitor.
  8. Bereft of my normal opportunity to play Twenty Questions with the applicant, I will simply have to state that your response are good and this has my support. Best of luck! +1
  9. Personally I like departmental security as an officer, since it allows me to be more present in a department rather than just visiting in the lobby or asking to be let inside to enact a warrant. It makes security officers feel more like members of the crew rather than entities that only leave the security office to hunt an antagonist down. It's very nice, and it seems to do a lot to encourage trust in security when your officer isn't an absolute glue-huffing idiot that attempts to arrest engineers for hacking into atmospherics or science for building guns. But I do have some concerns, particularly in regards to the extremely fun experience that is the antagonist security officer. Not only do they have authority and the best armor and tools you can get as a regular member of the crew at round start, now they also have access to most of your department and your radio channel. We had a round last night where two departmental security officers rolled traitor and took it upon themselves to become the Gestapo of the station, and they mostly got away with it since the non-traitor members of security that were still alive were otherwise indisposed. It was an utterly miserable experience to watch a security officer roll into a department loaded to bear with traitor equipment and walk straight through the door, the threaten the (unarmed) department with his traitor revolver and edgy black voidsuit. Overall, however, I like departmental security a lot! Finally, I'd also like to see departmental heads have more control over their officer (particularly on code blue). It's meant to be a departmental security officer, not a security officer that happens to be in your department.
  10. Good responses, this has my support. I particularly like your response to #2, as you haven't jumped straight to the obvious solution of "GET MORE GUNS FROM CARGO AND VALID" and have instead opted to work around your situation in a very interesting manner. Best of luck!
  11. Good responses. This application has my support, and I wish you the best of luck. +1
  12. DeadLantern is a good roleplayer that can create a variety of characters (look, for example, how original Mazer is - I've never seen anything quite like her as a head of security applicant), so I have no doubt in their ability there. However, the position of head of security is a very !!!FUN!!! one even on extended rounds. Thus, I have some questions. As per normal, there are no right or wrong answers here - instead, find the answer you believe best suits the situation at hand. 1). As a head of security, how do you intend to deal with departmental security? 2). Your entire armory, excluding your armor, has been stolen - right down to the .45 rubber rounds! Disastrously you have a full roster of security personnel too! What do you do? 3). How do you plan to deal with the oh-so-infamous problem of shitcurity, particular officers that commit minor infractions during an arrest? 4). How do you intend to roleplay being loyalty implanted? 5). Mazer is a very original concept, and an unusual one at that. How do you plan to deal with potential insubordination from more traditional unathi under your command? Good luck with your application, and I look forward to your responses.
  13. You've gotten a lot of feedback so far, and I've seen you play medical firsthand. I know you can play surgeon, but I don't know about management. After all, CMO is a role that can make or break somebody's round and we've seen a string of ones that are quite uncooperative. Thus, I have some questions for you. As per normal, there are no real right or wrong answers here - do not feel stressed by attempting to find the right option. Merely find the best one in your eyes. 1). A security officer barges into medical on code red with their laser rifle out, yelling about a ninja being in the surgery wing. What do you do? 2). How do you intend to deal with departmental security as a CMO? 3). It's a very hectic round of vampire. You're getting lots of patients, almost all of which are missing 30-40% of their blood. There simply isn't enough O- blood to go around, but you are fairly well staffed. You have two biochemists, two nurses, one surgeon, a paramedic, and a resident. Your surgeon is an IPC, as is one biochemist. Luckily for you, Valeriya Samsara a quartermaster is active and communicating with you. With all this in mind, how do you solve this issue? Remember that you are a member of command and can delegate. 4). How would you handle a surgeon joining that clearly has no idea what he is doing as a player? 5). How do you think you will resolve fights between departmental members, such as dueling paramedics or surgeons? I look forward to your responses, and wish you luck with your application! Do not hesitate to inform me if you have any questions regarding my questions.
  14. I plan for it to be a more subtle thing, rather than screaming "TWENTY YEARS OF LIVING IN A FOREIGN COUNTRY HAS CAUSED ME TO DRIFT FROM THE FEDERAL IDEAL" at every frog I interact with. Voq'Rav isn't so foolish as to air the drift openly, now that several skrell have been black-bagged by the Federation while aboard the Aurora. This may lead to something of a two-faced character, which is an interesting contrast to their habit of seeing the "purest truth" through psionic powers during investigations.
  15. Thank you for your interest! There are some things here that you seem to have misunderstood slightly, this isn't a two-hundred year old skrell - Voq'Rav is in their early sixties presently, and was barely into their forties when they originally moved from the Federation to the ECF. As for failing to climb the ladder: this is due to the trait of being a listener and somebody that did their work in the Srom, causing them to be regarded as a suspicious and untrustworthy figure by some, which lead to them turning more inwards, which led to them being regarded as even more suspicious. Ultimately they were regarded as a squid not really worth promoting to a higher station because of that. Sure, they were good at their job, but they weren't exactly fitting the mold of the known skrell. I would imagine less shame, more bitterness. A motivator to go abroad where they percieved their skills would be more valued than they were in the Federation. As for turning away from the Federation's beliefs? Rather than an outright rejection it is more distance, time, and pragmatism causing them to deviate into an ECF-centric frame of reference. Is Voq'Rav still a good and loyal citizen on paper, and in the Federation's eyes? Well, probably. But the skrell on the ground is, instead, more loyal to themselves than their home after two decades in the Corporate Federation where the unorthodox technique of reading a suspect's mind was a-okay as long as the authorities were paid enough to approve of it. In essence distance from the government and living the good life in Eridani under the rules and regulations of the ECF have all contributed to the drift. Were they to go back to Jargon, there would probably be some issues with how far they've deviated from acceptable Federal ideals. Thank you, esteemed colleague. I'm going to break this up into a few sections: 1). IPCs? Voq'Rav is more liberal than most skrell here, and has co-opted the ECF's general views on positronics: they're a useful tool, but generally not more than property. Free positronics, due to their rarity in Eridani, are a somewhat new concept to them. 2). Augments? Voq'Rav isn't against people getting them, but is against getting augments from the ECF personally. After all, skrell have their own augments that are generally better-quality than what humanity can offer. As for the skrell's cosmetic augments, those would also be avoided as a suit has to look like a true blue sky suit rather than one with ink under their (somewhat damp) suit. 3). AI? Humanity's artificial intelligence is something Voq'Rav is not a fan of, but not to the extent where they're going to start screaming and throwing a fit over common like some kind of Dominian. Rather than the vehement hatred of AI some skrell have, this is more a demeaning tut-tutting and snubbing of the AI when able. Sure, they can work with an AI, but they don't have to be pleasant about it.
  16. BYOND Key: NewOriginalSchwann Character Names: Oh Christ, here we go again. Species you are applying to play: Skrell What color do you plan on making your first alien character: Pale white, in order to be relatable to the average gamer. Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes, of course. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this specific race: Well, I’ve got character ideas! Why else play a race? Skrell are one of the oldest factions in our lore and have a unique way of looking at the world, particularly A.I. and synthetic life (HAVE I TOLD YOU ABOUT GLORSH? THIS MAINTENANCE DRONE IS GOING TO TRY TO STERILIZE YOU), and can be found basically anywhere in the galaxy. One could just as easily play a skrell from Jargon as they could from Eridani or, Stars forbid, a skrell from Dominia. They’re easily one of the most diverse races you can play, aside from humanity and IPCs. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: In order to be a true rebel without a cause, I am going to make this into bullet points rather than a full paragraph. 1). Biologically, skrell have several differences from humans. They are physically smaller, amphibious, have a different dental structure that demands a different diet than humans, and lack advanced facial muscles. The most radical difference is their psionic abilities, which are considered illegal to utilize on non-consenting non-skrell. As a final note, skrell are able to “sense” the aura of living beings, to an extent. This makes shells stick out to them, something I am quite familiar with :^) I'm still mad even now. 2). The central skrellian government, the Jargon Federation, is an authoritarian regime that seeks to create the “ideal Jargon citizen” with its idea of idols and its enforcement of a post-Glorsh status quo. While not all skrell live in Jargon, the point remains one of difference from humanity. 3). The skrell are a species with a longer history than humanity that are more united and less warlike: while the defining moment in human history may very well be the First Interstellar War, the defining moment in skrellian history is Glorsh – an issue they created themselves, rather than an issue created by conflict between skrell. Character Name: Voq'Rav Noa-Vaxoz Backstory: Hatched in 2401 on the frosty world of Aliose, Noa-Vaxoz was genetically modified and boosted at a young age, in order to be adapted to the planet's harsh environment (though they remained infertile, as many skrell are), and quickly proved to be an eager young skrell. Instilled with a sense of patriotism and loyalty to the Federation's (authoritarian) ideas from a young age due to their life on Aliose, as Noa-Vaxoz gained a desire to become a protector of some type for the skrellian people. After finishing their basic schooling and moving onto university studies, Noa-Vaxoz decided to pursue degrees needed for a career in investigative security. What would have been defined loosely as "detective work" in human space took on another aspect for Noa-Vaxoz, as the skrell proved to be an adept listener rather than a receiver. The suspicion they gained from this was, in their eyes, unremarkable compared to their ability to passively observe the Srom around them. While not good enough at it to become a Sromkala, Noa-Vaxoz proved to be good at passive investigative work in the Srom and in the waking world. They found successful employment with a security agency on Aliose following a combined twenty years of education in criminology and forensic science - complete with some anatomical training in order to properly perform autopsies. After a few years of this posting, at the age of forty-two, Noa-Vaxoz realized that they weren't really going anywhere. They did their job well and all, but their connections weren't quite enough to move further up into their department. opted to seek their fortune elsewhere. Elsewhere, after a few months of searching, turned out to be human space. More specifically, it turned out to be the Eridani Corporate Federation - a place where the fact that mind reading doesn't really hold up in a formal court of law doesn't really matter when you're attempting to root out corporate spies. In 2344, Noa-Vaxoz began work as an internal investigator for a private security contractor on Oran. By 2456, they had acquired quite a reputation as an effective - though unorthodox - investigator that relied on their keen mind, excellent education, and skrellian psionics to accomplish their goals. They began to drift away from the Federation's ideals somewhat over the decade, but did that really matter? The Federation and it's ideals were distant, very distant, and Eridani was a place where one could rise the ranks if they were good enough, and more importantly a place that paid well. Life was good, and getting better. When Noa-Vaxoz's company was purchased by a subsidiary of NanoTrasen in late 2461, she was slated to be shipped off to another high-end facility with an issue of corporate espionage: the NSS Aurora, a "research" station in Tau Ceti owned by the company's new supervisors. As one of their best investigators, Noa-Vaxoz was picked to be assigned to the station and assured that it would be "completely safe" to work on. Time will tell how true that statement from their supervisor was. What do you like about this character? Well, I've never seen an Eridanian suit skrell! Aside from that, I enjoy the idea of a skrell that uses their psionic powers for more personal gains and has drifted away from the Federation somewhat after dwelling in human space for almost two decades now. Plus, the presence of a skrell that is something of a snooper while also remaining somewhat uninvolved with the Federation at large provides an interesting dynamic to the aftermath of the Federation's recent escapades on the station. Also I can avoid being slipped by space lube. How would you rate your role-playing ability? 7.4/10 I don’t do fear RP I just do ERP. Notes: Hibbety hoppety get off my property.
  17. This has approval my application.
  18. Yeah, malf's great! I love gimmicks like stunning people and drag them through the tg-holdover cyborgification machine with no buildup (I've seen it happen to people after waking up from cryo), or using gravity slam on the AI upload chamber every ten seconds (pictured). I also love getting bolted into rooms that mysteriously begin venting, code delta at 1:59:00, and spamming recall on the emergency shuttle. Great fun! I would rather play any mode other than malf. Even worse is that it feels like the one full round I can normally play on weekdays is generally malf, and generally awful malf. It is absolute suffering. I have had one, perhaps two, good malf rounds that stand out of a veritable sea of garbage. I despise malfunction - it's the same awful song-and-dance every time I experience it: why are these doors shocked, please step onto the conveyor belt, robotics the borgs are acting weird, atmospherics disable AI control of the O2 loop, this unit has no laws, etc etc etc. Malf has soured my view of AI so much that, frankly, if a full removal of AI suggestion appeared I would probably support it. Fun Fact: My second round ever on Aurora was a malfunction round, and I was randomly APC gibbed at 1:45:00 while walking through a hallway. I then quit the server and did not return for almost eight months.
  19. I have some questions to see if you will be a good fit for the moderator team. There are no wrong responses here. 1). Did Thatcher have girl power? 2). Sfffjksfslnflsnafasfasf. Your response? 3). See image below
  20. Despite how my soul rebels at your method of formatting a list of responses (where is the PERIOD AND SPACE, BORYA?) these are good responses and I have full confidence in you to be a great developer. This application has my full support, and good luck.
  21. My only criticism of Borya is that he undervalues himself. Without his assistance I would not have gotten half of what I get done finished, and would not even be on the team in the first place. Borya has been a steadfast coworker and somebody that is always willing to listen to my ideas, no matter how outlandish or spur-of-the-moment they may be.. He has been, arguably, serving as the human lore developer for several months now due to the inactivity of the previous holder of the position. In my admittedly biased eyes, he is the perfect fit for the position. He has my respect, and has proven that he can effectively work around my habit of running off in random directions with ideas I find interesting. However, it is my belief that my approval is not just enough. Thus, onto my questions. 1). A major issue with the previous human lore developer was inactivity. In the case that you must become inactive, how do you plan to deal with this? 2). How do you intend to coordinate with other lore developers? 3). If appointed to the position, when do you intend to open deputy applications? 4). If not appointed to the position, will you remain as a deputy? There are no wrong answers, and I look forward to your responses. Best of luck!
  22. I prefer BRAINOS' work and am quite disappointed with the revelations that have resulted from this thread. As such, I support a full revert.
  23. Cybs is somebody I've known for a couple months now, and they've always been good at roleplaying. My rounds with Val as a CE have demonstrated that they understand the mechanical side of engineering, and that they can uphold the standards of a whitelist - I often see them helping new or struggling engineers as the round goes along. This application has my support, and I hope to see more of the doomer banana skrell as a chief engineer.
