  1. Good questions. 1). As for interactions with normal tajara, we'll have to wait and see. I anticipate most of the interactions are going to be along political lines, rather than religious lines, but we won't see until he's in-game. 2). Nikandr is a dogged atheist and Hadiist loyalist, viewing the cult in his city as a symptom of counter-revolutionary elements undermining the worker's republic through heinous means: in this case, hedonistic activities associated with what more religious tajara would term the "Cult of Excess." Note that he refers to them as "subversive cults" rather than "religious cults." The connection to counter-revolutionary activity is, additionally, something of a rationalization by Nikandr: the fact that these cults have existed for thousands of years, and are now reemerging due to the second revolution, is a bit too much for one to understand all at once 3). Due to rationalizing the cult within Hadiist ideology, he was not alienated and was able to continue his work for the People's Republic. He even managed to receive official backing - to an extent - in order to continue his investigations. Praise Hadii indeed. 4). Nikandr loves his job, his party, and his Republic. He's a patriot through and through - a true product of the People's Republic, and a Hadiist hardliner. This is, as a note, something of a character flaw: he has a difficult time seeing members of the NKA and DPRA as anything other than monarchistic counterrevolutionaries and terrorists, respectively. I've been stalling on this for two days, and I'm not sure if I'm satisfied with these answers, but hey! They're here.
  2. Thank you for your response (and the compliments), here are my answers: 1). Nikandr is very much the model of the new PRA tajara and is, as such, atheistic - religion being the opiate of the masses and a tool used by the feudal nobility to control the workers and peasants. 2). This does impact his views of Adhomai's dark mysticism: As a rational, new PRA man he is more prone to viewing the raskariim cultists as a sign of mass hysteria or, even worse, counterrevolutionary activity. Nikandr is an ardent Hadiist, and believes that most of these cults can be traced back to the failings of the Njarir nobility - after all, the leader of the cult ring he busted was a Njarir. Furthermore he views many mythological beings, such as S'Mara, with suspicion - hysteria, shell shock, or superstition. Due to being a M'sai born when Raskara was at its peak, he has a particular hatred for raskaren and Pan-Ahran myths. He is, however, a fan of Bolfurrrr films. 3). His parents were part of the first revolution, being urban intellectuals. They were less anti-religious than Nikandr is, but still viewed it with ambivalence - religion, to them, was a tool used by the Njarir to police the masses. As such, I would list them as contributors to his current new PRA man views on religion. 4). Detective Kolesnik is Nikandr's closest friend on Adhomai, and was his right hand (paw?) man in the investigations. Captain Mikhailov is another supporter, and is a major reason why Nikaner is now in Tau Ceti: his vote of support was enough to send Nikandr ahead of other choices for the position. Due to being born when Raskara was at its peak, Nikandr is not affiliated with the Kin of S'rendarr, Adhomai's famous anti-cult order.
  3. Despite being a weeaboo Matt is always fun to RP with, and I'm also excited to see what he can do with human characters. The only issue I have with the application is that he is playing a disgusting counter-revolutionary that supports the illegitimate dictatorship of the nobility over the workers and peasants of Adhomai. +1 but also DEATH TO ALL THOSE WHO STAND IN THE WAY OF THE WORKING PEOPLE
  4. BYOND Key: neworiginalschwann Character Names: OH BOY HERE WE GO AGAIN Species you are applying to play: Tajara What color do you plan on making your first alien character: Garfield color scheme silver Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this specific race: I'm a big fan of Russian history and was never taken to see the musical Cats! so this is as close as I'm going to get. On a more serious note I want to play a species of actual aliens, and the tajaran lore interests me - it's got a lot of motivation, from the civil wars to the dark folklore, to the half-remembered history of the species. There's a lot to work with here beyond "cat dude in a big coat that rolls his Rs." Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: A lot of things, really. Most obvious is that the tajara possess a vastly different biology as a result of their evolution and generations of selective breeding (which has resulted in a racial caste system). Tajara are also the newest entrant onto the galactic stage, and the least-advanced species in lore presently. Tajara are, additionally, in a worse state than humanity is terms of how they are perceived. Honestly, their status as a species is somewhat similar to IPCs - they are second-class citizens with a tenuous grip on their status in most places they dwell. A tajara in Solarian space could be fired and sent home for a variety of reasons, while a human in Solarian space enjoys all the rights of the Alliance. In Tau Ceti things are better, but they remain mostly confined to the gang-filled streets of the Sixth District. Character Name: Nikandr Morozov Please provide a short backstory for this character Born to an urban M'sai family residing in what would become the capital of the PRA, Nal'tor, in the winter of 2420, while Raskara was at its peak, Nikandr is part of the first generation of tajara to be born in an interstellar Adhomai. He was, additionally, born into a world about to be thrown into war on a scale never seen by the tajara before. The young Nikandr never experienced the first revolution directly, the fortune of living in Nal'tor proper, but was raised in a highly pro-revolution environment. By the time he entered adulthood, he was dedicated to the idea of service with the Republic's police force as a detective. Social reforms passed by the Republic's new leadership allowed this, and the young M'sai joined the Nal'tor Police Service in 2446 as a junior detective. Detective Morozov's primary duties before one fateful day in 2451 consisted of the service in the Nal'tor police district's homicide and violent crimes division - a fitting assignment for one born under the peak of Raskara, according to his Lieutenant. While most of his assignments were simple open-shut cases, he began to notice an unsettling pattern in some cases. Initially, none would appear to be connected at all, but a closer examination began to reveal odd patterns: disappeared persons reappearing with fake IDs, his colleagues in organized crime and vice reporting hedonism and murders in some poorer areas (and getting him involved in the investigation), and cases of hysteria at random. Raskariim cultists had always been present in the city, but they now seemed to be growing at an alarming rate - Morozov, being a secular PRA-trained policeman, initially viewed it as isolated incidents of hysteria, dying noble hedonism, and postwar identity theft. Over time, however, he began to realize that there was something off - direly off. In the Winter of 2450 People's Police Detective Morozov launched a formal investigation into what, unbeknownst to him, would reveal itself as a Raskariim cult. However, he would not discover the truth behind his investigation for several years. The death of President Rhagrrhuzau in 2451 caused the entire Nal'tor police department to be re-tasked with defending the Republic from subversive elements, which did not initially include Raskariim cultists. Morozov padlocked counter-revolutionary after counter-revolutionary after subversive element for a period of four years, working on the cult case on the side. His breakthrough came in 2454, detailed below. Now something of a hero in the eyes of the Nal'tor People's Police Department, Detectives Morozov and his partner became lead investigators in regards to "subvertist cults" in the city. Morozov would continue his efforts - almost a man consumed with figuring out how these cults worked, spending more and more time investigating them - until, in 2459, he was selected by the city's police Commissioner to travel abroad to Little Adhomai. A dedicated, effective patriot, he was the perfect pick (in the eyes of his supervisors) to ensure the citizens of Little Adhomai remained proper patriots and that contracted workers with NanoTrasen remained ideologically dedicated. He, out of a sense of duty and patriotism, accepted. If he managed to earn a promotion out of it, or uncover more of the information he seeks, then all the better. But, of course, duty to the Republic is its own reward. What do you like about this character? Morozov is an older character with a long history in the capital of the PRA, is an ardent Hadiist, and is obsessed with the weirder occult aspects of tajaran society. He is, additionally, officially here on behalf of the People's Republic, leading to a tenuous relationship with many of the tajara on the Aurora. Morozov is very much a New Soviet PRA Man, and doesn't regard it highly - this is an interesting contrast to most characters I've seen that have an investment in the occult - they tend to be the religious sort. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I don't do fear RP, I just do ERP. 7.5/10. Notes: I investigate John. It's what I do.
  5. -1. All my reasoning has been listed above, so I have nothing else to add regarding that. Instead, I did this: This is my method of showing how absurd this suggestion is to me. Thank you for coming to my talk.
  6. I really don't want to see the red-headed security officer women fighting mercs in high heels and tango dresses. This is unneeded - security should be visually distinct at at passing glance.
  7. Reporting Personnel: Doctor Mirjam Lippmaa, Necropolis Industries - Kumar Arms Research Division Job Title of Reporting Personnel: Scientist Game ID: b3f-dnt4 Personnel Involved: (Name, Job Title: Offender/Witness/Other) - Officer Oscar Easter, Necropolis Industries Personal Security Professional (Witness - Officer Alesya Volkova, , Necropolis Industries Personal Security Professional (Witness) - Miss Mo Chou, Necropolis Industries Corporate Liaison (Witness) - Officer Lex Harkson, Necropolis Industries Warden (Witness/Victim) - Mister Vincent Goren, NanoTrasen Detective (Witness/Offender?) - Doctor Sabah El-Ahsan, NanoTrasen Scientist (Witness) - Doctor Ana Roh'hi'tin, NanoTrasen Crime Scene Investigator (Witness) - Za'Akaix'Crono Zo'ra, NanoTrasen Security Officer (Witness) - Mute, NanoTrasen Janitor (Witness) - Reese Fields, NanoTrasen Biomechanical Engineer (Offender) - Doctor April Sirek, Necropolis Industries Scientist (Offender) - Miss Samara Watson, NanoTrasen Station Engineer (Offender) - Mister Pierre Leonce, NanoTrasen Emergency Medical Technician (Offender) - Mister Oliver Roadman, Chief Engineer (Offender - also serving as acting Captain) Time of Incident: N/A Real Time: 18:00-19:00EST Location of Incident: Almost the entire NSS Aurora: particularly the science, security, and engineering departments. Nature of Incident: [ ] - Workplace Hazard [ ] - Accident/Injury [ ] - Destruction of Property [X] - Neglect of Duty [X] - Harassment [ ] - Assault [X] - Misconduct [ ] - Other _____ (Place an x in the box that applies. If other, replace line and specify.) Overview of the Incident: (General description of the incident, to include as much detail as is deemed necessary) Upon arriving upon the NSS Aurora I requested some materials from robotics, presently manned solely by Miss Fields, in order to jump-start research, which Doctor Sirek had been neglecting for half of the shift (she was also, as a note, breaking CCIA regulations by not being in uniform - I initially assumed she was a NanoTrasen employee until I checked her information in my PDA). I requested the following items: two energy relays (Einstein Engines model), and one phoron generator (Hephaestus Industries model) - simple requests that have almost certainly been made hundreds of times in the history of the Aurora alone. I was told to say "please" before my request would be filled. I stated that I would not say so, as this was merely doing her job: while it is polite, it is entirely unneeded - Martians always expect one to say "thank you" after the slightest thing, but I digress. I was then viciously insulted by Fields - I referred to as an "uppity bitch" on the science radio channel in front of my peers, then she threatened to physically stomp on me. This is unacceptable behavior from a janitor, let alone a member of a high-security research station's research department, so I requested security to science. Officers Easter and Volkova responded promptly, and I stated my desire to press charges of slander. Following this, a warrant for arrest signed by the warden in absence of a director of security was presented, and Miss Fields was taken to security. After this point, things become somewhat confusing to follow. Doctor Sirek began yelling at security over the general channel shared between departments following the lawful and authorized arrest of Miss Fields. She was eventually warned and then brigged for misuse of public communications by the ISD, though I only know about this through second-hand sources. Miss Watson began to vigorously insult the members of the ISD and myself, claiming that we were naught more than jack-booted thugs that get our jollies out of being threatened with physical violent and then having that person arrested. She was a constant distraction throughout the shift, and never answered to my calls for an engineer to come to our wing and do two things: fix broken machines in our conference room and deal with a metal-eating fungus. This would have taken no more than five minutes of her time, but she instead opted to devote it to screaming into her radio headset like a madwoman for around an hour. I had to get the janitor to repair our machines and destroy the fungus (Mute, named above). Officer Harkson was demoted and detained by the acting captain, Mister Roadman, for carrying out a legal arrest warrant. I have no information on this aside from discussions between myself and fellow Necropolis contractors following the shift, and seeing Officer Harkson cuffed in the shuttle's brig. I suggest speaking with Officers Easter and Volkova, along with Doctor Roh'hi'tin, in order to resolve this issue. A meeting was held between all Necropolis Industries contractors on the Aurora by our liaison to encourage teamwork. A meeting during which Doctor Sirek lied to the face of Miss Chou, stating that Miss Fields did not threaten to strike me. I sincerely apologize for the behavior of my colleague, and hope that she will be disciplined harshly within the Necropolis Industries human resources system. Did you report it to a Head of Department or IAA? If so, who?: Reported to Miss Mo Chou, Necropolis Industries liaison for the NSS Aurora. Actions taken: I am uncertain, so allow me to lay out my perspective: - Doctor Sirek and Miss Fields were brigged for slander, among other charges. The behavior of Doctor Sirek is particularly disgusting to me, and I would like to apologize on behalf of Necropolis Industries for allowing this disgrace of a scientist to pass her hiring exam. - Officer Harkson was demoted by the acting captain for following a legal warrant. I would like the charge of illegal detainment dropped from his record, as he has done nothing wrong. - The acting captain was not punished for this, though we were lacking in command staff throughout the shift. - Miss Watson slandered me throughout the entire shift, and did not receive any punishment for her actions to my knowledge. My colleagues at Necropolis Industries have informed me that this is "normal behavior," for Miss Watson. If her normal behavior is to harass contractors and NanoTrasen personnel at the drop of a hat, I suggest you seriously reconsider her employment. Additional Notes: I have already contacted my Necropolis Industries superiors in Tolyatti, my Kumar Arms superiors in Leningrad, and my regional supervisors in Mendell City. I have been informed that a thorough investigation is being launched into these events, and hope that the NanoTrasen investigation will be similarly rigorous.
  8. It looks good, and fits with the style set out by the EPMC beret. If NT and Idris both have caps, I honestly see no reason to refuse the EPMCs one and this isn't just because I play four of them ayy lmao.
  9. Green makes me think "horrific disease-ridden death" more, so I vote for it. Will you also be making a uniform for roboticists?
  10. Hello I am also a frequent roboticist player, and I want to say that all these changes are good - particularly the exosuit fabrication lab changes. I truly despise having to help intent shuffle my coworkers whenever I need to pick something up or print something in it.
  11. The answers provided are good, the item fits the character, and I see no reason to not give it my support. Please give this vagrant some place to actually sleep, +1.
  12. Hi! I originally made this post, so I am contractually obliged to respond to it. When it comes to contractor overlap, I don't see it as a problem. In fact, it's a really good thing - it allows for more player expression and creativity. Honestly, some of the best interactions I've had on Aurora have been between contractors: Necropolis and EPMC officers bantering with one another over who is the better security company, for an example. An Idris quartermaster getting mad at her Hephaestus subordinates due to poor customer service, for another. Or, for a final example, contractors from different corporations debating what is the most important thing to research first in science. It creates interactions that we would be deprived of if it was just "NT and [DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC CONTRACTOR]" in every branch of the Aurora. Adding more corporate contractors, or expanding the ones we have, will create more of these good interactions: imagine, for example, the rivalries that could emerge between Einstein and Hephaestus engineers if Einstein Engines was added as a contractor faction. You mention you want to create intra-departmental rivalries, but these already exist between contractors within departments, as I have detailed above. Hello, I have taken the liberty to write actual contractor blurbs for Einstein Engines since they, it seems, need lore. Einstein Engines Senior Engine Specialist: As an employee of Einstein Engines you represent a tradition stretching back centuries and spanning hundreds of systems. YOU are the elite of megacorporations, and you act like it: you are unfailingly professional, highly dedicated to your job, very well motivated (and paid), and the best at what you do. You can operate any engine, from a generator to a warp drive, and your counterparts really should defer to you. Einstein Engines grows and prospers thanks to people like you, and your counterparts in research. However do keep in mind that, if you manage to get data on the supermatter engine, a bonus is in store for you - and maybe even a promotion! Einstein Engines Telescientist: As a researcher for Einstein Engines you represent, with pride, a tradition stretching back to the interstellar origins of humanity. Your predecessors helped make humanity what it is today: a power on a galactic scale . While the glory days of warp gates may be past, and the corporation has radically restructured itself, you still hold your head high: you are dedicated, unfailingly professional, extremely well motivated (and paid), and the best at what you do. You are the vanguard of Einstein Engines’ experimental telescience division, and a key factor in engine research - your telescience experiments may very well be the key to future warp drive research, and breakthroughs for the corporation. But always remember that NanoTrasen shouldn't get the full extent of your research, lest Einstein become involved in another legal dispute. And if some NT research should manage to find its way through the Odin's security in your bag? Well, such work certainly deserves a bonus - don't you think so?
  13. Good character, good item, good application. BIG +1 but IRU-Agnes would like to remind YOU that reporting untagged shells is your duty as a citizen of Tau Ceti.
  14. Byond key: NewOriginalSchwann Discord key: Schwann#4814 Character Name: Likho Item name: Terraneus Diagnostics Labcoat Item function(s): It's a labcoat. It has two pockets, and the same protections of a normal labcoat. Item description: A well-worn labcoat that marks its wearer as an employee of Terraneus Diagnostics, a subsidiary corporation of Einstein Engines. Text on the labcoat's breast pocket marks the employee as a roboticist employed at Factory 09, Hoboken, United Americas. Despite wear and tear, it still manages to protect against minor chemical spills (and grease). Item appearance: It's a labcoat in Terraneus Diagnostics colors. Why is your character bringing this item to work? Likho, as a free shell, is not somebody that owns a lot. Most of her possessions have been used, repaired, reused, and repaired again until they completely fail. This labcoat, originally used by herself when she was a research assistant in Factory 09, has been a reliable friend for upwards of five years. It also holds some sentimental value for Likho, as it is a reminder of how far she has come over the course of half a decade. How did your character obtain this item (1 paragraph or more please): Likho recieved this labcoat upon her creation/employment as a scientific research assistant for Terraneus Diagnostics - the obtainment is as simple as that. It's one of thousands, perhaps hundreds of thousands of similar labcoats in use by Terraneus - the only unique marking on it is the factory is wearer is employed in. Likho PROPERLY recieved it when she was formally decomissioned following the advent of more advanced shells and an industrial accident that left her scarred. A sympathetic floor supervisor opted to "fire" her instead of scrapping her shell and placing her positronic brain into a new body, and threw her out with her clothes on her back: she was left with the labcoat and a Terraneus synthetic uniform, with a shuttle ticket to Mendell City stuffed into one pocket and 500 Credits stuffed into the other. What value does this item have to your character, and what story does it tell? (2 paragraphs here please): Likho views it as the last link to her past she has, aside from a ticket stub for a Solarian shuttle to Mendell City, and keeps it as a reminder of how far she has come - and how close she was to simply being scrapped and recycled. In term of raw value it's a functional labcoat that can resist grease and most minor chemicals despite its age, and she does not have a lot of money. Therefore, she wishes to hang onto it for as long as possible. In terms of a story, it shows the journey Likho has been on: she's gone from a Terraneus prototype shell, to a Terraneus owned shell, to free, to a Tau Ceti Foreign Legion volunteer, to a citizen, and finally to a NanoTrasen employee. The labcoat shows where her story starts, and where it has gone. How will you use this to better interact with crew and/or stimulate RP? It makes for an interesting conversation piece: the labcoat itself looks like nothing else in the research department or on the station and clearly displays Likho's origins with Terraneus Diagnostics. Sprites: Attached below. Additional Comments: In order to replicate a (theoretical) Terraneus uniform, I used the color palette from an Einstein Engines uniform. TDlabcoat.dmi
  15. Coming to you live from b2Y-afIm [PREVIOUSLY RECORDED] I can confirm that Fumus came over to fabrication and threw a bunch of stuff for tech levels at us (again), then justified it by saving his buddy Volkov does research (again). Nothing else I want to add has not already been said, so I'll just leave it here.
  16. Contractor Ostrom, EPMC. Witness Testimony: "I served as a field medic during the so-called 'Picnic from Hell' due to not being issued any equipment by the head of security. Upon asking for equipment I was informed to "remember Stalingrad - not every soldier gets a rifle." This is not an acceptable response to an employee under any circumstances. The tactics utilized were unimpressive: communication was poor, most of the hunting party seemed to be poorly armed and trained civilians, and medical supplies were limited. It was a complete command and logistics failure on every level, and the head of security did not perform his duty as a commander - instead opting to flee at the first sight of an unknown bioform. Suffice to say, I now have serious doubts about NanoTrasen's hiring process for directors of security aboard the Aurora II. I am also not impressed by the amount of unarmed civilians there were sent to die against the so-called creature. My opinions are my own, and do not reflect the opinions of the Eridani Private Military Contractors. Please contact Director van Vollenhoven for further inquiries, and have a blue sky day."
  17. The truth is he's a nasty guy. He was so nice to me - I mean I knew it I was watching and kept saying c'mon Khaled let's go Khaled but he's a nasty guy. Nobody likes him, nobody in the ISD likes him, nobody likes him anywhere once they get to know him. He's a very, uh, he's got an edge that's not good you can't hunt valids with people like that and it's not a good thing it's not a good thing for the ISD. Very nasty guy.
  18. Does this mean you will support re-adding the corporation as a contractor?
  19. Your opinion is valuable, but I think you've missed my point somewhat. Hephaestus Industries is primarily focused on engineering flavor, so I cannot dispute that. The logistics side should also be considered, as it's a key part of the megacorp. Necropolis is focused on science and security, while Hephaestus is focused on engineering and hitting rocks/shoving boxes. Why do they even need scientists? Overlap has not been an issue so far: we have three contractors that do security (N.I., EPMC, Idris), three that do research (Zeng-Hu, N.I., Hephaestus), two that do logistics/cargo (Idris, Hephaestus), and two that do medical (Zeng-Hu, EPMC (although only paramedic, so this is a bit of a stretch). Why is adding in more flavor for engineering a bad thing? The assets are already in, and it will add more diversity to characters as E.E. contractors have a reason to compete with their Hephaestus counterparts. Being sneaky is not a major point, it's a side note: quite literally all of the contractor factions that do research are described as sneaky and willing to steal NT technology to make more money (examples: Hephaestus senior engineer, Hephaestus cargo specialist, Necropolis bio-technician, Zeng-Hu senior medical doctor, and Zeng-Hu geneticist - the only contractors that aren't attempting to actively commit corporate espionage are the EPMCs (who want to arrest more people to get their bonus) and Idris (who want to encourage NT employees to make deals with Idris)). The major distinction for Einstein Engines is that they're highly professional experts in their fields who brag about bringing the best they can. I'm not sure what your final statement is attempting to say, apologies. If you wish for me to address the merge, I can do so upon request.
  20. Good question. Going off of contractor and wiki descriptions I would say that Hephaestus is more focused upon logistics and mass manufacturing, while Einstein Engines is more focused upon research (such as shells) and advanced engineering projects (such as the warp gates), many of which are also theoretical (for example, the experiments of Taipei Engineering Industrial). In terms of gameplay Einstein Engines would be more concentrated in the fields of engineering and science, whereas I mostly see Hephaestus as a mining/engineering contractor. While a H.I. contractor might focus upon getting the best results with what they have, an E.E. contractor might opt to push the envelope (and sneak out of the Aurora with their research documents) to get better results. As such, I believe they would have different occupations than Hephaestus: you wouldn't hire E.E. contractors to break rocks and move boxes like their Hephaestus counterparts, you would hire them due to their ability to perform advanced research and willingness to experiment with new things. Another gameplay distinction is that Einstein has two subsidiary companies, Taipei Engineering Industrial and Terraneus Diagnostics, while Hephaestus simply has divisions. While a Hephaestus contractor is the same regardless of what division they are from, an E.E. contractor from T.E.I. would have an entirely different specialization than one from T.D. For my final gameplay distinction, I would like to state the E.E. contractors would definitely behave differently than H.I. contractors. While H.I. cargo/logistics specialists are described as "[...] your customer service level is subpar to be sure," these contractors represent Einstein Engines. They represent the first of the modern interstellar corporations in Aurora's lore, with a tradition stretching back hundreds of years. They're proud of that, very professional, and always high quality - E.E. contractors should view themselves as a cut above the rest in terms of engineering and AI technology, as they've been doing it longer and (in their minds) better than any other corporation. Don't forget that NanoTrasen has a bit of a rivalry with E.E. - this could be a fantastic chance to show NanoTrasen what Einstein is capable of, and grab a few of their secrets along the way.
  21. Einstein Engines is an important megacorporation in lore, especially if one consults the timeline. They have had a hand in the creation of faster than light travel (including the warp gate project (Timeline of Humanity, 2355-2390)), modern shells (through their subsidiary Terraneus Diagnostics, also the creators of SUNSHINE - the most advanced AI in the Sol Alliance and a major producer of AI systems used by the Solarian Navy), and are the first trans-stellar corporation (and one of the oldest still in operation). The timeline even uses NT's overcoming of Einstein Engines as a major accomplishment (Timeline of Humanity, 2425). Furthermore, Einstein Engines is one of the "big three" megacorps in the Sol Alliance alongside Zeng-Hu and Hephaestus (Timeline of Humanity, 2400) before its restructuring in the first half of the 26th century. So, why can't we play as them? I've generally heard two reasons: 1). They're a subsidiary of Hephaestus Industries. - Nowhere I looked on the wiki has it stated Einstein Engines is a subsidiary of Hephaestus, though this may be an updating issue. Considering the clout Einstein Engines seems to have in the lore, this is unlikely. If I am wrong, please inform me of how illiterate I am. 2). They don't have enough jobs available to be a real contractor. - This is a more fair criticism, but I can still counter it. Einstein Engines, through its subsidiaries, focuses primarily on engines (shockingly), engineering, and robotics. This means that the contractor branch can include station engineers, scientists, roboticists, and the quartermaster and cargo technicians(since somebody has to manage intake, right?). You could make arguments for more jobs, such as security officers, but it is my belief that security has enough contractors as is. This would make it a smaller contractor faction, but still one that is worth having. "But all that stuff is in the lore and who has time to read that?? How can a company named after a long-dead German be relevant now???" Good question! My primary argument here revolves around the recent activities of the SLF and rogue shells: Terraneus Diagnostics contractors are meant to be experts in robotics and A.I. research, and are part of the greater Einstein Engines megacorp. Despite the bad blood between NT and EE, would it not make sense to bring them aboard due to recent developments? If anybody could detect a rogue shell, certainly it would be a Terraneus researcher that has worked with IPCs and AI technology for decades. The fact that a TD-NT contract stipulates the rest of EE comes along is an unfortunate, but necessary, part of corporate security. Furthermore, Einstein Engines has a very large branch in Mendell City that is described as an "immense skyscraper" by the wiki, and is the largest non-Solarian branch of the corporation, meaning that their employees are already in the system and available for contract work.
  22. I'm not familiar with the vaurca as a species, aside from the one that goes "HYEH HYEH HEH" and haunts my dreams now, but this absolute maniac plays a forensic technician that doesn't immediately go SSD and actually did his job instead of asking for a gun and going to hunt them valids. I give him a +1 as he is a GOOD COWORKER, though I feel as if I should instead force him to play forensic technician forever instead of supporting this whitelist. However his duffel bag does look horrible.
  23. I also played in this round. I was Likho, mechatronic engineer. I was called by Vincent Gallardi, the warden, to the brig several times to discuss the AI issue. Ultimately I could not do anything about the problem for a few reasons: 1). The AI was having the aforementioned synthetic rights party in its core. 2). The partygoers were armed, and had looted the vault and armory. 3). Two of our four security officers were involved in this AI mosh pit. 4). The entire crew seemed to be descending into madness, and I was seriously considering stealing insulated gloves and cutting the AI wire on any doors I could find. Furthermore, the AI had been acting odd all round: it had caused two scientists to duel with extremely lethal weapons (hitting several bystanders), motivated the chief engineer to break into the vault, and had stated that it would stop any attempts to interrupt it or control it. It was disrupting the entire station and, considering the history of rampant AIs in lore, security was within their right to destroy it: this is an entity that is clearly broken and has access to most systems on the station. It would be illogical not to eliminate it.
  24. Hello, I played Ezelda Coetzee (you were close enough, she just has a weird name) in the aforementioned round. I can confirm Bath Salt Addict's points and label them as valid in my experience. The round was a communication disaster and reminded me of deadpop security in a bad way, as everyone stuck out to do their own thing. Two incidents stick out to me. 1). I arrive on the Aurora as an EPMC security officer about thirty, maybe forty minutes into the round. EPMCs are, to me, pretty professional and expect a lot of of their teams. I didn't expect a personal briefing or anything maybe just a SITREP or something. I got nothing from the head of security even after greeting him in a blandly professional manner. Actually, it seemed nobody had heard from him in a bit and his shaders were down, so I decided to do the reasonable thing and check the camera. He's in there with Miller, again. It's not the first time Armstrong has run off to RP an office relationship, but it came to color the rest of the round for me. 2). About an hour and a half into the round, we get ordered to go to telescience. Another officer and I respond with Armstrong and, after arriving, he says he needs to go get the CE and keeps us on perimeter overwatch. Where we wait. For around a half hour. Without orders. Eventually my fellow officer leaves, comes back after five minutes with updated orders, and we roll out to having no direction outside of maintenance rather than inside. All in all it just felt like a sloppy round and is probably one of the worst security rounds I have played with a head of security active. Armstrong wasn't listening to his team, was fawning over Miller despite a clear and present danger (and reasonable suspicion that she might have done something, as the other suspect was a Dominian that we joked "probably starts screaming and praying when she sees a cyborg"), and wasn't serving as a departmental leader. Honestly? It felt like we were all side characters in some kind of Miller-Armstrong romance drama and didn't actually matter in the grand scheme of things. I don't think a head of security, or any departmental head, should give their department that feeling. Armstrong is, in my experience, typically very, very good at departmental coordination - I would argue that he is playing the implant and his relationship to Miller poorly, and that this has shown through in a very bad way in these two rounds. I wasn't in the hostage situation round, so I'll refrain from commenting on it.
