My only request for this is, if you move the the SAT, you need to make it's defenses uber thick in all directions. Roof, floor and walls. It's hidden away in the Captain's Quarters for good reason after all. And if you don't move it, make sure it's not just a open doing blowing in the wind with the move, I'd move it into the AI core's defenses personally.

Lorilili - Skrell Application
Butterrobber202 replied to limette's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
We held a vote awhile back for a rename, and the players expressed their desire to keep the name. For the record though, "Jargon" is the human translation, as a Skrell just calling it the "Federation" will more than get your meaning across. Anyways, on to the app... Only Child of their egg group or Only Child of their entire Quya? I find this line interesting. Were the Quya Members all Miners? It is a common theme among parents to want more for your children, were they never encouraged to be anything more than a Miner at all? This is fun! Stowaway frog! Just so you're aware, as far as I, another player, know, you'll still have Federation Citizenship if they were registered with the Planetary Government at their birth. You'd probably have a in the PITS social score though! Something to take up with the Lore Devs when they arrive to eat your application whole. What was their role in the ship/fleet they were assigned in? Pilot? Soldier? Personal Chef to Xioshi? Speaking of! How does your Skrell feel about the Star-Admiral? Last question, I swear, there's not much about their overall personality in the app, outside of their views on authority, how does your frog view the Spur? -
Roostercat's Mod Application

Rooster pog hes cool, friendly and good to interact with, not to mention being Staff already. -
Preface: A Developed Villain: Before we begin, let’s go over what an “Antagonist” is. Many books and sources will call the Antagonist “the one who opposes.” For the sake of getting your mind in the right spot, let’s make this our definition. The Antagonist is “one who brings change.” Where the Protagonist is “one who reacts to change.” In the standard SS13 setup, the crew are the Protagonists. One of the most critical parts of being a good antagonist is having a fully fleshed out character under the hood. Aurora’s setting is incredibly rich in lore and the dystopian setting provides ample scenarios where a person could be made to turn bad. You absolutely do not want to have an extremely basic character that is just a body for you to pilot while you be the Bad Guy™. This leads me into my first major point. Have a Reason Only enable Antagonist Roles on a Character that would have a valid reason to be that type of antagonist*. If you are playing a nice, stable person who leads a pretty happy life, you’ll have trouble with developing a good story as you act like a Villain. You want to have the other players have the thought: “Yeah that tracks.” when the mask comes off. I’m going to write some examples of lore-driven antaggory below in spoilers. * Some Antagonist Types are by their nature are NOT your character. This would be off-station antags and Changelings. Some Antagonist Types imply your character has undergone events before the shift that have radically changed their mentality such as Revolution or Cult. Have a Goal This one has some overlap with the last, but it’s a good step to think about. Before you turn your antagonist roles on you need to have, bare minimum, a goal in mind for the character it’s switched on for. Using Antonv as an example, he would want to hurt NT as much as he can, be it killing Command Staff or sabotaging the Aurora’s profit margin by destroying Science and Mining. You don’t necessarily have to have a bullet point plan when you go into a round, as the Butterfly Effect is going to punch about fifty holes into any plan you make. But these goals will guide your actions throughout the round and careful observers of your actions (read:Security and Admins) will begin to pick up on your theme if you think logically about what you do. For that reason, you need to make sure your goals are being furthered with every action you take. Acceleration of Actions We’ve all been there, it was voted secret but everyone is convinced it’s extended because the round duration is at 1:45 and nothing has happened. Then suddenly, BAM, shit is exploding, people are convulsing, halls are flaming. 15 minutes later a CT is called and boom, it’s over. What happened? The Antagonist lost too much time. You will learn very quickly as an Antagonist that the clock is your worst enemy. Two hours is not a lot of time, and that’s going to be your standard time frame. When you pop into any round as an antag there is a setup phase. It varies wildly from gamemode to gamemode, but it’s there. A Traitor needs to get away from his colleagues to get their equipment in order, Mercenaries need to gear-up at their base, Vampires need to lure a target away from others and get their initial powerset. You need to finish the setup phase as quickly as you reasonably can, and it differs from Antag Type to Antag Type. If you want to get the ball rolling before people are mentally packed up for the round, you need to hit the ground running. Allot yourself about ten to fifteen minutes to handle your department stuff, after that you need to be working towards your Antagonist Goals. Everything you do is going to take longer than you thought, and random stuff you forgot to think about will hinder you as well. If you reach the 1:25 mark and haven’t caused any kind of radar blip for Security, you need to do something so the other Players get involved. I’m not suggesting you get caught, but if you can get spotted or cause some kind of disturbance, it’ll go a long way for keeping the crew mentally checked in. Intensity of Actions This may seem counterproductive to the last point, but certain actions need to wait until later in the round. While everyone who joins a secret round is accepting the risk of being involved with an Antagonist, no one wants to get off’d by the 20 minute mark. A good rule of thumb are these guidelines I try to use: If: It will end someone’s round It will damage a heavily trafficked area It will definitely provoke Code Red Then whatever the action is, it needs to wait until forty minutes have passed if you can help it. This may seem short to some people, but every round is different and there’s no accounting for the myriad circumstances that antags can be put in. For the record, ending someone’s round doesn’t count if they choose to ghost out of their circumstances, as long as you made sure they could still RP with people or would in the near future, it’s not your problem. Also, if someone acts stupid with you, don’t feel bad if you end up killing them, as long as you gave them the choice to stand down before you opened up on them. Finally, killing someone’s character doesn’t always mean the round is over for them, those absorbed by the changeling can live on inside the Hivemind or as Morphs, those killed by Cultists can be turned into Constructs, these types of things give people the opportunity to stay in the round. The minds of Command Staff will also vary constantly, so you may not be able to accurately predict code changes. More importantly, there’s no way to know exactly how they will react to your actions, but you can safely assume if you did something violent, you can expect violence in return. Involvement One of your goals as an Antagonist is to get people involved in the round. Do not go into a round with the mindset that you will involve everyone, sometimes the ball just won’t roll that way. You just need to do as much as you can in good faith. Involvement doesn’t always mean direct interaction with the Antagonists either, you will send shockwaves through a round based on what you do. Creating an Aura of Fear by murdering crew members is involvement, just as much as using all your antag items to throw a big party in the bar is. As long as you give everyone something to work with, even if they just sit around a table and talk about it, the mission is complete. Failure and Aurora Antagonist Culture You’re going to fail before you succeed. Space Station 13 is a crazy game with so many minute variables, something is going to go wrong in most of your early attempts. Don’t sweat it, but don’t abandon a round because you failed either. If you get arrested, roll with it. Let Security interrogate you, it’s a great moment to deliver your manifesto if you have one. Good Wardens and Investigators will keep RPing with you even when you’re in the Brig! It’s a two-way street really, Antagonists cause trouble for Security to deal with, and if the Antagonist is captured, Security should give their prisoners some mental stimulus as well. Even if you die, congratulations! You played another round and learned a thing or two about the game. Sometimes when you’re acting out your goals and objectives, (often called your “gimmick”) the crew is just not going to vibe with it. It happens, it’s unfortunate, and it can hurt your feelings. The best thing to do is to roll with the punches and try something different next time. Usually, the more unique and fresh your objectives are, the more receptive the crew will be. One of Aurora’s standout characteristics is the Antagonist Player Pool is rather small. So it’s a frequent occurrence that the same players are the antagonists over the course of multiple rounds. If you start playing antagonist frequently, this phenomenon will quickly become apparent to you. There are certain members of the community, who for better or worse, will pick on you for being an “Antag Main”. Some of them are joking in good fun, some of them are not. Regardless of what is said, as long as you are trying to drive a narrative that fits in with the lore, you’re doing what is asked of you, don’t let their comments bog you down! ----- * The Guide has been looked over by Staff before posting to prevent false information.

I like Revenent, I also agree it needs to leave rotation. It suffers because of one of our playerbase's most noticeable characteristics. people don't play antag. So when only 1 or 2 guys are pulling blue man group duty, Security can easily deal with the threat and the rest of the station just gets to sit there for two hours and chew on cud. The Reves are only threatening when they appear in large numbers, which more often than not, they don't.

Caelphons Deputy Loremaster Application
Butterrobber202 replied to Caelphon's topic in Developer Applications Archives
I will immediately declare I am neutral on the application. I am not a member of the lore team, and therefore, I do not believe I have any right to decide who they are lead by. I'm commenting on this to agree with Sleepy and share my own experiences with Cael. I acknowledge that the experiences of a normal player and a Staff Lorewriter are different, but I felt the need to comment nonetheless. Passion is what fuels creativity, asking someone to become "dull" seems insulting to their imagination. I disagree that anyone person can be too active in a community. And even if that were a possibility, it should be considered a positive thing. I would take a Loremaster who maybe posts too much over one that posts too little. In my interactions with Cael, of which I have had quite a few, there have been eager and willing to listen to my questions and ideas. In fact, they have been extremely receptive to what I have said to them and have sometimes come to talk to me with new ideas and suggestions for what I presented them, asking me on what I thought the best way to integrate them was. This kind consideration has meant the world to me and I've not had any problems cooperating with Cael. -
I genuinely would be okay with just removing Warden from the antag pool. Their access to a fuckton of weapons is dangerous, and usually results in a hell feast for the rest of the Crew.

Speaking of omnipotence. I think it would be neat if we used those spare core slots in the AI core for other mini-AI's. You know how changelings absorb players into them and they can communicate and stuff? Maybe give the AI a similar ability where ghosts can hop in as these subservient cores and help out a busy AI. They'd only be able to talk to the Master AI, but they have all the controls of an AI. Additionally, I don't think this role would be whitelisted, because it would provide a good taste test to being the AI. (And because the AI should be able to eject Sub-AI's that are not acting right.) I think it could push AIs in a more fun direction.

Reporting Personnel: Si Suop'Jsui Job Title of Reporting Personnel: Head of Security Personnel in Question: Amanda Miller Job Title of Personnel in Question: Chef Reason for Review: [ ] - Extended Arrest History [ ] - Grievous Infraction on Record [X] - Other: Potentially Untagged Shell and Falsified Records Notes: During the shift, I encountered Amanda Miller at the Kitchen and when I used my Psionic Abilities on the area, they did not register. I will explain the nature of the ping in layman's terms before continuing with the report. I effectively send out a weak wave of Psionic Energy and it will "bounce" off of other life with a Zona Bovinae. This life would include: Humans, Unathi, Tajara, and other Skrell. IPCs, Vaurca, and Diona will not give me any feedback when I use the ping. As for why I used the ping at that specific time, I have begun the ritual of pinging every time I'm in a new environment or with a new person outside of Federation Space. Shells can be rather convincing, and I am not comfortable with not knowing if those nearby are Synthetics. Moving on with the report, after I discovered they did not respond to my Ping, I began to question them somewhat discreetly about their nature and they bluntly informed me they were a Shell. I accepted this and ate my food. Upon my return to the Brig, I checked their records due to remembering their age from a previous crew-wide records check. When I checked the records, I found that their age is 22. Realistic looking Human shells were not successfully produced until 2250. If you can do the math, this does not line up with reality. In addition to the age issue, there was no listed tag data within their Security or Employment Records. I moved to secure an IPC Tag Scanner from the Odin (due to a lack of Science Personnel) but an unrelated Security Problem required my attention for the rest of the shift, and I was unable to pursue this issue further. I would like to note I questioned some of my staff about Amanda Miller and it seems they have been present on the station for an extended period of time and have done little to no wrong. I am not submitting this report out of malice, but concern over NT's records on Synth Workers due to the current situation with the Ceres Lance. I fully expect to continue seeing them on the station, albeit with more accurate records.

Antagonists are defined as those that bring change in most storytelling setups, and Protagonists are those reacting to the changes. That said, I think the current terms are fine as is, and I believe Actor would be far more likely to confuse new players than something as clear cut as "Antagonist".

This is one of my most hoped for feature as well, and I'm pretty sure it's on it's way. As I understand it, the Aurora will move to different locations based on the current Lore Arc, so stumbling across Jargon Federation Ships while near their space would really make it feel IMMERSIVE. Not to mention, it increases the value of race whitelists, since these ships would obviously have to be staffed.

Omicega -- Command Whitelist Application
Butterrobber202 replied to Omicega's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
+1 I played with Omi in a recent round and found their HoP to be professional and acted like a proper member of Command. Additionally, I've interacted Omi quite a few times as antag and in passing on the station, and each time their RP has been believable and well-put together. I think they would do a great job in the Command Role. -
Out of curiosity, what characters of mine have you seen been violent, even when not antag? I rarely participate in violence when I'm not an antag or playing Security, additionally I don't play on-station antags very often, so I'm unsure of where the notion arises from. The last time I recall playing an on-station antag, was with a Vaurca Cadet in Security who I decided I didn't enjoy and trashed the character concept, and during the round I played them, I was only violent when attacked by Security.

I don't mind the fact it is blue, but does it have to be such a dark blue? If it was brightened up abit were things were more discernable without damaging my eyes, it would be great.

I addressed this on the last app, where I was taken away from my computer during trial because of IRL. It wasn't something I had control over, it was a one-time occurrence, it was just bad luck that it happened at that time. As for the robusting, valid, and win part. Yeah, for the time I've been here I've done alot of stuff in the department instead of driving a story. I get that, and you're right. Like you said, for the large span of time I've been here, I've antagged hard and fast without placing the need for a story first. I've acknowledged that, and spoken with admins about it. I can't really prove to you that I've cooled off since I don't think you pick up antag very often. But, you thankfully haven't made that the question of your post. Adding to rounds as command is complicated, because not all command members are going to add to a story the same way. I'm not specifically talking about their different roles mind you. The Characters themselves will have varied responses because they are different. If I was playing an Eridani Suit, like I mentioned in the app, I'd run a few ideas on my head on how to make the antags a net gain for Nanotrasen. For example, if they were here to setup a shop and sell their antag items? Tax'em. It's believable that a Corporate mongol would want to find a way to slide credits into NT's pockets, and that way the antags would still get their interaction. As it stands, the few active command players usually do okay when it comes to gimmicks. I know you can go into Command positions with the idealistic idea that you can accommodate any gimmick, then the antags start shooting. I understand why many in Command are gun-shy about gimmicks. The good news is, most of them give you a chance as long as you don't come in guns blazing. Previously on extended, when I had the Whitelist, I did things like throwing pool parties as Captain and stuff like that for moral raising reasons, but uh, sometimes no one shows up for those and it can be disheartening. Anyhow, with that said I hope you opinion changes on the trial.

BYOND key: Butterrobber202 Character names: How long have you been playing on Aurora? : A long time, I’ve lost track. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: The Command whitelist provides the receiving player with extended roleplaying opportunities by extending their job choices to those in positions of power. This gives you a very strong ability to influence rounds, and hopefully make them more enjoyable for others. Furthermore, the lore-centric Consular position is locked behind the Command Whitelist, and it's a role I would like to play more. Why did you come to Aurora?: I didn’t like Bay12. Aurora is the only other choice. The lore improved, I liked it, I stayed. Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Many times. Have you received any administrative actions? And how serious were they?: Quite the Laundry List actually. I’ve received bans and antag bans in the past. But as far as I’m aware most, if not all, my notes, warnings, and administrative punishments have related to my antag play. I have been clean of any admin warnings or punishments for the last couple of months. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplay is complicated, and I prefer it that way. It is a fantastic way to experience things you would never do, or have the opportunity to do in a fantasy environment. I think Roleplay’s main goal, or what it’s about, is the characters. How the characters we create interact with the world around them, the other characters around them, and the circumstances we put them through. I don’t care if my character’s limbs get blown off, as long as I get some good RP out of it. But to give a definition, it's putting yourself in a character's shoes and acting how they would. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: You drive the round, literally. The crew of the station will look to you to decide what the Station’s response should be to whatever is happening in the round. So, it’s the command player’s job to strike a balance between the different parties of players and try and give everyone an equal chance to participate in the round. Additionally, you also have the ability to end rounds at your fingertips round start. This isn’t something non-whitelisted players have, and one of your jobs is deciding when the crew have taken enough. The long and short of it is, you have a heavy amount of influence on the round, and the reason you have it is to improve the round for all players, antags included. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: The question overlaps with the last. As a whitelisted player in round, your job is to use the lore provided to you by the staff to drive a story. You are effectively a representation of the lore, in-game. Without performing this responsibility, you won’t have that “Aurora” identity with your character and at that point, why even play Aurora? I take this seriously even now, when I’m not command. Anytime I make a new character (and I do that a lot) I’m going to open up the wiki and get to reading. I don’t make characters without refreshing myself on their race and cultural lore. Could you give us the gist of what is currently happening in Tau ceti and how it affected your character and their career? For the record, I intend to create a new character if this is accepted. I don’t have a name for this character yet, as that is usually the very last thing I do. But my idea was that he is an Eridani Suit that was “let go” during a staff restructuring at Einstein Engines. Now back on the Job Market, he notices Nanotrasen has taken its first noticeable beating in a long time in the form of the lost court case with Einstein. His reasoning is that NT is obviously going to want capable people (such as a fine-mannered Suit like himself) on their staff to help get their profits back in black. So, after applying, he’s hired on as an Head of Personnel. I intend to write more for this character, but that was the idea that came to me. What roles do you plan on playing after the application is accepted? The big three are: Captain, Consular, Head of Personnel. But recently, I’ve been playing Engineering again, so I’m considering Chief Engineer. I have interest in Head of Security, but in the past it just proved a stressfest and I stopped playing them after a few rounds. I'll probably try it again, and stop again to be honest. As for CMO and RD, I have little interest in them as I am writing this application. Characters you intend to use for command or have created for command. Include the job they will be taking: I intend to make a Head of Personnel, using a new character after the application process. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: Dislike the question. I’m better than some, worse than others. I feel certain I can provide interesting RP. 7/10 Do you understand your whitelist is not permanent, and may be stripped following continuous administrative action?: Yeeeeeaaaaah. Have you familiarize yourself with the wiki pages for the command roles? Wasn’t this already a question? Yes. Extra notes: I don't think I can make my HoP as fashionably Eridani as Sleepy's Captain. ?

Add a 1 TC Traitor Implant that lets you have a Remote Signaler in your head. Like, have it function like an augment.

Correct. Loner is a new gamemode that has a population limit. It won't be in rotation if we've got more than like 10 readies or something. Making Wizard (and Visitors) have a upper limit is the way to go.
