One of my favorite things to do in this god forsaken game is screenshot random things people say over radio so I can take them out of context later. Feel free to do the same thing on this thread

[Accepted] Beelzewax's Vaurca Application
Roostercat replied to beelzewax's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I may not recognize your characters, but this app shows a decent understanding of Vaurca lore imo, and the idea of a bug not accustomed to aliens with a damaged socket sounds interesting to me. Though some more explanation on what his beliefs are would be nice, like his belief in mother dream, which as far as I remember, has a belief in rising to new simulations instead of a VR afterlife. Other than that inconsistency (if it even is a inconsistency, I'm too lazy to check the wiki right now), Ima give this a +1. -

[Accepted] Roostercat's Command app
Roostercat replied to Roostercat's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I believe that first part WAS one of my first cadet rounds as I remember seeing it and wondering what was going on before I was called to the HoS’s office. As for the question, I believe security’s goal in this game is to do three main things. One, give the antagonists a challenge. Antaggery would get stale super fast if the only opposition to them was some dude with a toolbox, so security tends to make them come up with a plan of action. Two, they keep players engaged and in the round. There have been many a time where I have had to drag someones unconscious body out of a combat zone for them to be treated and I am sure they would have been chilling in deadchat otherwise a lot of those times as well, and when antags are captured, we keep them engaged with things like interrogation, processing, general question asking before putting them in their cell. it is one of my favorite parts of the role when I get to hear them explain their actions or try to prove their innocence as it is never the same story. And third, most importantly, security exists to either create or roll with environments that encourage related RP, such as being die hard loyalists, or trying to stop a bar fight, or even just explaining to the bartender why he can’t lend the shotgun to people. All of those situations would be drastically different and more or less boring without security. Good security play, in my eyes, is giving antagonists a challenge to meet while still making their gimmick possible, such as trying to negotiate in a hostage situation rather than just baton rushing, as they have to come up with demands and a plan while security comes ever closer. Good security players are always active and communicating in situations and talk a lot to antagonists and victims and of said antagonists in particular. I feel I should also add what BAD sec players look like as well, Bad sec players are typically the kind that, instead of speaking or trying to resolve a situation peacefully, immediately pull out their flashes and batons and go a swinging, their ultimate goal is to win instead of driving the narrative. They are typically either silent or extremely aggressive when they talk and seem to show no emotion other than stone cold long arm of the law. They are the kind of people to cuff someone and drag them to brig despite the fact they are coming willingly, “just in case”. As for the last question, escalation is important to make sure that the gimmick situation an antag makes me isn’t shut down in twenty seconds. In a real situation police would not just barge into a hostage situation weapons drawn, they try to talk it out first and only move in if they feel the hostage is in imminent danger. Same thing applies here. Any given situation should be handled according to the threat. If the guy is not about to kill someone right then and there, always try to talk first, it won’t work, but the point is not to win here, it is to make a story, and making a story with no dialogue is difficult. Only break the .45s put when they are clearly about to do something very dangerous to station and crew. You wouldn’t start shooting people jaywalking and you shouldn’t start shooting the lunatic with K’ois straight away either. Sorry for the block of text, this is ALL on my phone -
BYOND key: Roostercat12 Character names: How long have you been playing on Aurora?: around 1 and a half years by now Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: Playing just sec and sometimes researcher is getting boring, and the ability to play a command role and a Consular Officer, which is mostly what this app is for, would likely spice things up a bit. Why did you come to Aurora?: Heavy roleplay server that isn't quite known for shitmins, a good map, and a very interesting cast of races with deep lore. Also seemed easier to get into then Bay. ( it was) Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Yes Have you received any administrative actions? And how serious were they? Aside from a bwoink every now and then, I have received no bans or anything like that. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplay is when you create a character and then use them to either drive a narrative or be part of said narrative. The main goal is to create a story, it doesn't have to be a good story, but a story nonetheless, and to partake in a fictional world on a more personal level. Roleplay allows for a whole new level of gameplay as well that is just not found on other servers, on some old LRP server, hostages are a joke, and pain is ignored, but In character? Those things become life or death as you pretend you are there for real. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: The main goal of a head of staff is to drive the narrative and to co-ordinate their department. They make the round interesting via multiple ways, including being the boss™, organizing the station in times of chaos, and running along with gimmicks to ensure fun is had and roleplay is achieved. ICly, the goal of a head of staff is to run their department at top efficiency, and ensure the station in general is running, and looking at that all mighty bottom line. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: The OOC responsibilities of a Whitelisted player are numerous, the chief ones being to be able to help new players into the game, creating or rolling with environments that encourage RP, and introduce fun situations that are intriguing for all involved. A Head of Staff coordinates the department and/or station, and is meant to be a help to the station, providing advice, giving orders, and protecting crew until they get turned into an antagonist. Could you give us the gist of what is currently happening in Tau Ceti and how it affected your character and their career? Things for the Zo'ra are tense right now, with most lesser queens expanding and in need of resources, such as Zoleth on Caprice, And sources of income for these resources are needed. Thus a megacorporation such as NanoTrasen is sought after to be in good relations to make such sources possible, So the Zo'ra often send a Ta to increase relations on some stations, being the most politically advanced hive, In hopes of securing resources and making the Zo'ra hive look better in general. Ta'Akaix'Kuxkri'ax Zo'ra is one of these Ta, of whom was previously looking after young Vaurca, before being reassigned to handle relations with NanoTrasen, whom also have lots of phoron and means of making K'ois, and she was sent to one station in particular, The Aurora, which has quite a few notable Vaurcesian crew. What roles do you plan on playing after the application is accepted? Consular Officer ( Which is mostly what this app is for. Mostly) Head of Security Maybe CMO Characters you intend to use for command or have created for command. Include the job they will be taking.: Ta'Akaix'Kuxkri'ax Zo'ra - Consular Officer Jackson Vulip - Head of Security How would you rate your own roleplaying?: Solid 7/10, I can make my own story when needed, though am much more comfortable following along someone else. Do you understand your whitelist is not permanent, and may be stripped following continuous administrative action? Yup. Have you familiarize yourself with the wiki pages for the command roles? Yessirmanma'am Extra notes: I was going to apply for IPC, but ima wait for the shift of p o w e r

Bicardine, Peridaxon, and Alkysine nerfs
Roostercat replied to sonicgotnuked's topic in Discontinued Projects
The only medicines right now I have a problem with is Bicaridine and Peridaxon. Bicaridine because it is the magic bullet for IB and Peridaxon being the magic bullet for organ damage. Some drug should NOT be able to fix a popped lung. The only reason surgery is ever used now is because of fractures, shrapnel, or IPC surgery for damages. legitimately everything else can be fixed by some medicine and a syringe, which I feel is stupid. Though completely taking out Bicaridine's IB fixing is the wrong way, I suggest making Bicaridine delay IB, not fully fix it. Make it stop for, say, 2 minutes or so depending on the dosage. And as for Peridaxon, make it repair some organ damage, but have surgery required to fix all of it. -
[Accepted] Borya's Command Application
Roostercat replied to BoryaTheSlayer's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I was the AI that round, they handled all situations incredibly well and responded to basically everything I told them. Handled multiple departments, mainly sec and supply, and ultimately kept the station together through bombs and manhack grenades. Solid +1 -
stop sweeping maintenance the second the round starts

I can get along with that, I am simply against removing maint access, I am absolutely fine with eliminating maint sweeps. -
Brutishcrab51's bone to pick with SonicGotNuked
Roostercat replied to Brutishcrab51's topic in Staff Complaints Archive
I was the dead Diona security officer in this round, They had thought I was killed while restrained as the hostage at the time, and the raiders were fairly aggressive, hence the aggression when another hostage was taken. I was watching that as well, and Easter gave a LOT of time for the hostage taker to secure the hostage who was thought to be AFK, rather than just baton rushing. The raider Diona had taken the hostage further into medbay and was threatening to harm them, so I see how a flashbang could be necessary here, as again, they thought I was straight murdered for no particular reason. And had no reason to believe the raider wasn't going to kill the hostage now, as the raiders had been firing at people constantly prior. -
I think the chance for the merchant to spawn should be 45 percent compared to the 20 percent ( I think) it is now. I have tried to start as merchant for the past 15 rounds or so and not ONCE have I either gotten it or even seen someone else get it. Rarely is merchant ever seen, and I get that a merchant every round would get boring, but a merchant every 50 rounds isn't great either IMO. It is kinda sad that we see mercs with a trader gimmick more often than the ACTUAL TRADERS.

Roostercat replied to Butterrobber202's topic in General
What if there is no command and someone does something illegal and goes into maint? What if someone is dying in maint and we are the only close ones? Removing maint access on green has no real purpose other than denying the sweep, IMO it is a pretty not great idea. -

Tyanna is a pleasure to roleplay with and I am confident they can pull a Diona off, +1 -
First time i saw black kois i was my Vaurca officer, Crono, and someone tried to tell me they saw a black hole in holodeck
-
There have been plenty of times where I, a Vaurca, should have ABSOLUTELY bled out but just kinda didnt, then again there are times where a single laser killed me. I still support this though as I have walked away from far too many situations just fine after medical pumped me full of drugs in about 30 seconds.

Security (And other roles) Less Likely to Become Antag
Roostercat replied to BurgerBB's topic in Archive
As much as I love playing sec antag as Crono, I agree with this due to the fact that I know it pisses everyone else off. there was one round where 3/4 officers were traitors, we just raided the vault and left the cap, cadet, single officer, and HoS deal with it, and that was before I threw a manhack grenade and disabled them for some time. Thye couldn't even attempt an assault from being so undermanned as we had already raided the armory as well. I say don't completely eliminate sectags but do lower the chances. -
So, Changelings are arguably the dumbest antagonist on the station currently IMO for multiple reasons. The chief among these, again IMO, is that almost if not all of the ling's abilities revolve around combat. There is nothing that these abilities do that can lead to some sort of RP that doesn't involve shooting. Armblade tends to give sec trigger fingers, Abomination gets shot almost immediately, and the stings are never really noticed by more than one person depending on the sting. My suggestion to fix this is in the title, Body Horror! Now, what the hell do I meant by that? Body Horror is when a creature does something incredibly grotesque, like splitting their face in half, to scare those around it. In-game I imagine the changeling having this ability to do the same thing. Though this ability would not have any practical uses other than that, which I feel would encourage more RP that doesn't involve a robustofest. Now sure, you could simply /me these things, but that kinda depends on other people to notice and use thier imagination, and having it actually happen in game would make it more reactable then looking at some blank sprite face that is supposedly bleeding from every orifice according to chat. It would be something simple like blood showing up on the sprites face with red text describing what is happening. At the very least, this gives changelings a few glory moments before being gunned down, and at best can drive a new range of RP, including autopsies and the like, as I am sure science is curious as to what kind of creature splits its head in half on command. Though autopsies like that do happen, it is pretty damn rare. Imagine catching someone's doppelganger in a corner as sec, or seeing both of them in a hallway in medbay with everyone watching, and then seeing one of them have their eyeballs leave their head on tendrils, it would shock anyone in the room and most likely have everyone involved screaming for their lives over general. I feel this is a necessary addition as, again, the Ling has basically nothing like this and has mostly combat abilities that are very hard to have any real RP with without either getting shot or people immediately running away due to knowing what that armblade is and what you plan on doing with it OOCly. At the least most people would read the red text and say something before booking it down the hallway. This is my first suggestion so if it seems lackluster that's why btw.

New wizard spell; Tools for thieving bastards.
Roostercat replied to Pratepresidenten's topic in Archive
Wizards are bad enough without being able to steal sec's weapons from their bags tbh. A neat idea though. -
In the event that one guy can't put two and two together I imagine it is to prevent mass infection before people actually notice. As people who know there is a virus will be more wary than if there was no announcement
