Allakai's Tajara Deputy Application
Faris replied to Allakai's topic in Developer Applications Archives
I'm not sure if this has changed, but. We don't tend to accept people with positions in other servers. For a number of reasons that may include conflict of interest as certain things said on staff discord are privileged. Prior to retired admins being removed, anyone retired that would become a staff member for another server would lose their access. Additionally, you don't strike me as active in the community or even in terms of gameplay. You used to be quite active but then disappeared and only recently I've noticed you back. -
Today I will murder all IPC lore dev applicants.

[Retracted] IPC Species Maintainer - Scheveningen
Faris replied to Scheveningen's topic in Developer Applications Archives
Can you detail your goals more specifically? A time line of sorts? A sequence of things you want to focus by order? I know you can write and you haven't really posted any major plot changes or style of management changes that I can really touch on that hasn't already been posted here. Though I feel you answered your questions adequately. There are things I need to bring up in regards to applicant themselves. I spoke to you on discord about this but I'll reiterate, I feel like responding to this over the forums to also be insightful. You have the tendency where you have to get the last word in, even at the expense of the rules or being nice. It's a reoccurring issue that I wish you would just stop with it. The lore team involves a lot of communication, and there may be heated topics as we all are passionate about the work we do, and in my opinion, it does not take much to cause mischief and distrust between people. So I need to know where you stand with this, genuinely, can you hold yourself? -
Unfortunately I will have to jump to a -1 on this application. Your re-entry to the community after your recent unban which while involving synthetic roleplay, is part of a larger issue as a player. I don't think it's suitable to reconsider you for a staff position any time soon. It's still too soon to factually believe that any previous incidents will never happen again. Spend some time as a regular community member, you can still contribute if you like as we have avenues of cooperation.

[Retracted] IPC Lore Developer Application - Crozarius
Faris replied to Crozarius's topic in Developer Applications Archives
I'm going to wait until the current questions by the others are answered regarding the application itself before I put some of my own. Though I will raise a few concerns about the applicant themselves. Firstly, you were recently absent from the community for a while, and from my perspective, seem to play in bursts. How do you see your activity in the long term? Stability of a lore developer is important, and if one changed every few months, it causes inconsistent writings and visions. Secondly, relevant to the above, but you seem to have serious doubts about the staff team, specifics aside. How do you think this will translate to you yourself potentially being a member of staff? The last thing any staff team needs is friction between the people working together. There's a lot of communication going on and you will most likely work on joint projects between people every now and then. Lastly, I have never seen you in a position where you have to manage something, at least in the context of Aurora. Do you think you're capable of handling a large volume of criticism? Some will most likely be presented rudely as people may not like changes, how do you intend to respond/handle those people? -
MoondancerPony's Synthetic Lore Deputy Application
Faris replied to MoondancerPony's topic in Developer Applications Archives
Your google doc clearly shows a lot of love and investment into synthetics as a whole. I understand this both stems from your favored books to your aspirations in life. Now, this is a good thing as it tells me that you're invested enough that I can say you care, but inversely, I do have a concern that you'll reshape lore in a way based on your expertise and knowledge that it'll limit the players ability to play creatively. To be more specific, it's like if we had an engineer design a piece of lore that is strictly by the numbers. People without the same education/knowledge would be left extremely inhibited when it comes to creative utilization and that form of writing is not something that is really utilized by the lore here. I believe the apt term is hard science fiction. Considering we have gigantic ships ramming other ships, an odd do it all element, magic in the universe and large sea worms, how is your writing going to be when contrasted with other elements of lore? You mentioned forcing select people to redo their application to show their understanding. Now, the concept may be a good way to separate those that know and don't, but you're going to run into a lot of issues with this. Firstly, there is zero precedent for this. I have not heard of a single person being asked to reapply for a whitelist if it was not stripped in the first place or originally denied. Secondly, you're going to get push back. What if a person refuses? I doubt everyone will take kindly to it. This'll circle back to the statement where you said you don't want to strip whitelists, but that's the only real viable method to ensure people actually follow through. Thirdly, selection. You're going to select specific people to go through with this. Again, I expect push back from people and even allegations. "You picked X and Y, but why not Z?" Lastly, logistically, this is going to be a rather taxing undertaking, especially if we go by your assertion of the amount of people that have applied without any lore attached to it. It would be unfair if some went through with this but half way through you binned this part of your project. These present concerns are now to do with the applicant themselves. My understanding is that you have a large distaste towards people I don't really need to name, my worry is that you intend to undo a lot of the work they've already done towards the lore. Shakes up are just that, shake ups. You've been a very outspoken critic to every previous synth developer I recall. So my concern is that, should you be expected, how much of a lore rework do you intend to do? How much of it do you intend to do from the ground up? IPC's from memory have had the most issues when it comes to character continuity due to changes on dev by dev basis. Additionally, as cited before, there are some attitude problems, now I realize there are underlying causes to some, but despite you apologizing and citing understandable reasons as to why they happen, there is still the issue and potential of occurrences happening in the future. You'll be dealing with the most opinion diverse species on terms of what they should be, so you'll be getting a lot of criticism, some of which will surely be heavy handed not to mention criticism from staff as well. For me, good ability in communication and a good attitude is imperative, but I can't help but feel there may be conflict. Before posting this, I went ahead and spoke to you about all this, and I feel that the wish for improvement is genuine, but it has to be said for consideration. -

[Accepted] Nekonyan123's Skrell Application
Faris replied to Nekonyan123's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
It's a decent take on things, namely being related to idols yet being the child that's failed. Their experiments are also things that are highly relevant to the setting and it's actually a plausible goal a researcher would have, to improve co-existence between species. The story also has enough aspects of the Skrell lore covered to give me the impression it's been thought out. My only gripe is that I don't feel the Sol System is a believable system to pick for where this research is being done. The Sol Alliance is vast, so you could easily select some asteroid belt or other system which you can create quite easily. So I'd recommend you change this bit. Given that Resi has said they'll be away for a couple of days, Paradox and I are in agreement that this is to be accepted. Warble on. -

I'd honestly prefer a mechanical solution to this. Start scientific at a level where any scientist can raise it with just steel and glass. -
Alberyk's Tajara Lore Writer Application
Faris replied to Alberyk's topic in Developer Applications Archives
Alberyk is an individual I do not sing the praises of as much as I really should. I'll keep it concise, within context of this application and the applied position. Active, communicative and caring member of the community, and particularly as staff. Has a no nonsense attitude when it comes to things. So I have zero concerns when it comes to whitelist quality. Has already put a lot of investment towards the species as cited above, be it lore wise or development. My only gripe was the astonishing volume written up, while I delight in reading other peoples work, it has gotten to a point where it needs to be condensed. Though you have already addressed this and I am happy with your response. Additionally, loved your essay as it touches up on a forgotten aspect of the Tajara lore and has given me a character concept to think about. You have my full support and I'm frankly excited. -

[Accepted]Xevanthraxis' Skrell Application
Faris replied to Xevanthraxis's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
The applications has a few good things and a few things that could be improved. The good for me is that you used known and notable locations to this species and incorporating the appropriate ones to suit the character backstory. There's also a measure of acknowledgment in regards to the synthetic issue. While the aspect of information volume here is not much, it is enough to allow me to get some amount of insight to this character you created. Unfortunately, I do find a few other things lacking. The question regarding what makes them different in my opinion to not be enough. You mentioned diet, humor and relationship to be different than humans, but you didn't mention how. Your history with the server is limited and far in between. You have five rounds in May and one round in August as a total of all characters you have listed. Your last log in of the server was actually a couple of days before you posted this application. So overall, while I'm not averse to endorsing your application as a deputy, given that my gripes are addressed and the background fleshed out a bit. I cannot see myself doing so currently, due to your low round count and lack of feedback or endorsements of other players. My personal recommendation is you log a number of rounds and to advertise your next application for feedback. -
[Accepted] ShesTrying - Moderator Application
Faris replied to ShesTrying's topic in Moderator Applications Archives
Being a former resident of that discord, I can attest that. 1- I haven’t really seen any major rule violations by Shestrying and that the discord is effectively dead by the time I left it. 2- I have not seen nor believe that Shestrying subscribed to any controversial beliefs listed above. While they may not have stopped any debates, they didn’t encourage any of it either. And my own piece here. Overall, I think Shestrying is just an overall friendly person, which is why they have a large list of people they’re on a friendly relation with and friends. Sure there’s a concern of being impartial and fair, but I don’t think we can really base any of that on the discord which was just supposed to be a group of people hanging out. I think they deserve the chance for a trial. It’ll be a good experience to see what has merit and what doesn’t in terms of both the positive and negative things said. -

[Withdrawn] Grom's command whitelist application
Faris replied to Gromnax's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Hello, this seems to have fell through the cracks. In the future, if an application stays unanswered by staff over a certain limit, dependent on the type, contact staff to remind them. For command whitelists, it's a week. Here is a link that helps you in finding out who to contact. Regarding the whitelist itself, the application is decent enough and you as a player have a good record on the server, only minor accidental stuff. You do however lack feedback, but I'm willing to grant you a trial, but before I do, I need you to affirm that you're going to be sufficiently active for the trial period, being a week. Just write a reply here. If there is no reply within three days, it will be denied. -
Player Complaint - Jesse Armstrong
Faris replied to Snakebittenn's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
I'll keep this brief. The following are the clauses that can result in a whitelist removal. The player has received too many administrative actions related to being a command player. Some of these actions are relevant to incidents that have been listed here. Their whitelist has been removed. They are free to apply again in no less than a month, which is the 21st of October. Locking and archiving this.
