  1. Wizard rounds were awful. I do not want to go back to what is essentially an encouraged wacky, completely unbelievable, and borderline lrp game mode. Before its removal, probably a quarter of the crew would cryo immediately upon realizing it was wizard (I being one of them), because the game mode was just that bad and poor for RP.
  2. I thought it was fine. I played the HoS, and while yes, we were being threatened by the guns (to which I concur with Danse), the potential was there to resist. It was 5 FSF, 2 of which were lightly armed officers. Security could’ve wiped the floor with them, and captured the CO if we’d armed up and planned it out. That said (and I discussed this with one of the bridge crew), that was really the “fuck around and find out” option. Sure we might capture the LCDR - who’s to say the acting XO on the Caravaggio cares and doesn’t just start shooting? It would’ve been a gamble, and it was one that command was not willing to make
  3. I agree with Cael/Gromnax, and have another reason for disagreement - wasting resources. Realistically speaking, since the Horizon doesn't return to a port every day, you're having to keep someone who may have killed several people alive, under guard, fed, etc. for a long period of time. In some cases, yes, this is preferred (a spy, for example), but if you've arrested an antag that's killed 3 people, why keep them when you can just dump them off on the nearest rock? Consider also a situation where there is a mutiny, and you have several persons in the brig. Would you keep them on the ship, where they can sow discord via the brig radio? Unlikely. Personally, Command should be trusted to gauge the severity of the antag's crimes, and then decide what to do with them. You typically, in my experience, don't have command members trying to maroon someone for a single murder, unless it was high profile (ie. Captain).
  4. Sustained, move on to a relevant defense
  5. 90% of merc/raider rounds devolve into either: one of them gets captured or killed and someone just so happens to check their headset, then “oh great heavens!” and it switches to a PDA chat, which is incredibly annoying; or, the more likely scenario, command and security discuss what they’re going to do followed by one or all of them going “wE cAn HeAr YoU” and immediately rapidly escalating as a result, and the same PDA chat results. I don’t like it for these modes, and I think making TC be required is a great idea. It’ll probably always be bought, but at least make it cost something
  6. nice
  7. Similar to the reasons others have said, I have to -1 this. Command antagonists, especially regular traitors, are 100x worse to deal with that security antagonists. I recall that at least a quarter of the rounds would turn into the antag command fucking with alert levels when raised by the non-antag members. There's simply too much power in their hands as command already.
  8. So the Head of Security uniform can't have it's sleeves rolled up. Would be a lot cooler if it were able to. Don't know if that's a bug or a sprite thing though
  9. Some people seem confused as to where the ERP-potential/aspect of it comes in, but there have been players in the recent past (who were mostly punished I believe?) who would do things like thrall characters and make them kiss or love each other or some variation thereof. I do agree with a lot of the other points people are making though, at least in terms of player agency. Sometimes this stuff happens when you play secret, and that’s the risk you take when readying for secret
  10. I don't have anything to add to what the other's have already said. So +1
  11. I’m assuming you’re talking about the Dominian merc team. If so, he was not on the team
  12. re: The accountability portion and workplace safety, I feel that's justified by the fact that it's much less expensive to continue to have the same workers as opposed to constantly hire new employees because of abuse, death, etc.
  13. I will be taking this complaint
  14. Dear Santa,

I wouldn't trust Wright with a jelly doughnut, TBH. Looks a little sketchy. XD

  15. I remember that one, and maybe I’m getting events mixed up, but the one I’m referring to was some sort of Tajara diplomat. I mainly remember that detail because I was a guard, and looked like a Cat Mobster.
  16. Perhaps the most severe IC example is during a canon event round where they threatened, multiple times, to field execute my character, the HoS, for disobeying an order from the Captain. Their behavior was so outrageous during that round that they were either temporarily banned or whitelist stripped, I don't recall which. Following that incident and during the subsequent IR investigation/admin actions, they made a throwaway character and harassed my character ICly during a round with it, attempting to bait me into an IC or OOC response. As for a strictly OOC example, they once flew off at the handle at a fellow member of CCIA for "ruining" their non-canon event by making some sort of mistake during the playing of the round. Some of my memory around some of this stuff is fuzzy because it has been so long, but their behavior is pretty well documented by multiple people, and as I said in my post, given their relative lack of interaction, I do not believe it's changed.
  17. I'm not going to speak for danse, but I echo his concerns regarding Marlon's conduct, and I can't say there's really been much proof of that having changed. I get your point @Garnascus, but with Marlon having been gone for so long, only to come back, hardly play the server (if at all), and make a few forum posts, and claim that their past character/behavior is changed, I don't really buy it. It's one thing if someone has shown that they have changed with an extended period of good conduct, but Marlon has been around (sparingly) for a couple months and wants that claim to be taken at face value. I can't take it, personally. I have had many negative experiences with Marlon due to their conduct, and I think conduct plays a role in allowing someone onto the staff team, especially into a position as powerful as this one. The conduct exhibited by Marlon over the years has been atrocious, bringing OOC grudges into IC and vice versa, as well as taking exception to people that disagree with them, in a very abrasive manner. This is not conduct that the deputy loremaster of the server should have (nor anyone, to be fair). I'm all for forgiveness, but I don't see that the behavior has really changed. The fact that they haven't played much (if at all) also concerns me not just from the conduct perspective, but the fact that they're out of touch with the current state of affairs in game.
  18. I have to echo some of the sentiments of others in this thread. I've seen Farson around quite a bit and I have concerns about your ability to separate IC and OOC. Just last week there was an incident in round where a cargo tech was arrested for stealing like, 30 credits worth of tips in front of the Captain and several other witnesses. Farson raised a ruckus ICly when he found out (which is fine), but then after the conclusion of the round he took it into OOC, questioning myself and the Captain OOCly as to why we had them arrested. It wasn't necessarily a hostile interaction or anything, but it raised my own antenna to the concern that this is someone that cannot separate the IC behavior of a character from the OOC player, which would be an issue for playing command.
  19. CCIA Staff Application Basic Information Byond key: CampinKiller Character names: Logan Wright Jonathon Caladius Brian Caruso Connor Wilson Colton Hagan Paul Flynn The rest are all rarely played one-offs or not played at all Age: 24 Timezone: Central US (GMT-6) What times are you most available?: Typically early afternoon and the evening to night/late night hours Experience How long have you played SS13?: 7-8 years How long have you played on Aurora?: 6-7 years [How active on the forums, discord and/or server are you? I'm fairly active on the forums and discord, usually playing at least one round a day and hanging around as a ghost at other times during the day depending on what I'm doing outside of the game. Have you ever been banned, and if so, how long and why?: No Have you ever volunteered as moderation staff for any other servers, SS13 or otherwise?: I was the Head Moderator for a time at CM back in 2015. I was also CCIA during 2015-16 here on Aurora, back when it was called DOs. Do you have any other experience that you believe would be relevant to a position in the CCIA?: No Personality Why do you want to join the CCIA?: I want to help out with the server in general, but I also want to help drive the interactions between the station and the Odin. I feel like it's an avenue that has tremendous potential when used properly during rounds, and has provided great narrative to me in the past, and I want to be able to help provide that for others. What do you think are the most important qualities for a CCIA Agent to possess?: Having good judgement goes a long way in handling IRs, as well as being able to sift through witness testimony well, asking good questions. Good judgement also applies in general behavior, I feel. I also believe empathy is important - nobody likes having their character punished, and understanding that frustration goes a long way, in my experience. Also just being helpful - there's a few different areas of IC procedure, regulations, etc. that people might find confusing, and being able to help them understand that goes a long way. What do you think the purpose of a CCIA Agent is in an ongoing round?: I think the purpose of CCIA in an ongoing round is twofold. The first, and I'd say main purpose, is to assist (when necessary) in driving the narrative for a round (within reason). For example, if a merc team shows up with proper paperwork and faxes are shot off to Central, to notify Command that, if they have the proper paperwork, they possess authorization, as opposed to allowing Command to just shut down any sort of narrative. Another component of this is responding to faxes from the station in general, be them about antags or not, to provide a more immersive feel, and story opportunity, as opposed to nothing at all. The second purpose is to curtail ongoing tomfoolery, if notified. For example, the station remaining at red for an extended period of time with no reports, or being faxed that a member of command has ordered something completely outrageous 5 minutes into the round. What do you think the purpose of a CCIA Agent is outside of the server?: Outside of the server, I feel that CCIA's purpose is in both handling IC misconduct through the incident reporting system, but also discussing ways to improve CCIA interaction in-round, clarifying confusing IC matters (ie. SOP, regulations), and just being helpful members of the community. How do you handle stress?: I handle stress very well, for the most part. I've worked in a fast-paced, high-stress job for several years and am able to handle it very well, and make split-second decisions while remaining calm, under pressure. Obviously CCIA is not a role where I would expect to be making split-second decisions under pressure, but I feel that the experience I have in handling those situations helps me handle more "long term" stress, so to speak, in just sitting back and taking a breath if I begin to feel stressed out. How well do you work autonomously?: I work well autonomously. My current job is essentially an autonomous software development position, so while I might need clarification, or ask for help when necessary, I spent 90% or more of my time working autonomously on various tasks. Additional Notes: None
  20. Reporting Personnel: Logan Wright Job Title of Reporting Personnel: Head of Security Game ID: cfm-dhAt Personnel Involved: Bryant Royston, Phoron Researcher: Offender Viggo Sook, Visitor: Offender Kathira El-Hashem, Investigator: Witness Secondary Witnesses: Fezile Burns, Security Officer: Obtained information regarding the "prank" from Viggo Sook, including the voice changer used to perform the act. Later was aggressive in detaining Royston and reportedly beat them, causing minor injury which was addressed with a minor assault charge. Qoi Liuiq, Station Engineer: Was essentially promoted to interim during the incident, as we expected massive station damage. Obtained telecomms information indicating that the message was sent by a person, not by the Tachyon Doppler Array Darvan Omega, Station Engineer: Was present in telecomms to the information obtained by Liuiq. Oskeha Uzokiusu, Chief Medical Officer: Can attest to the event in terms of the fake announcements coming through. Was also kept apprised during the event as it transpired. Rrhuyala Rrhakaslav'Karimi, Warden: May have witnessed the end of the confrontation between Burns and Royston. Can also attest to statements made during processing/the fake announcements. Graziana Stoica, Investigator: In charge of the investigation into the death of Troy Woollard. Informed me that it appeared the miner had either sustained the injuries themselves or been impacted by explosion. Anastasia Kalyna, First Responder: Witnessed the confrontation between Royston and Burns. Held Royston on the floor until he was restrained by myself after the confrontation. Can attest to the fake announcements. Mike Bisenti, Security Officer: Apprehended Viggo Sook after the discovery of the true nature of the incident. Time of Incident: Unknown Real Time: 1700 CST, 06DEC21 Location of Incident: General Communications/Aft Primary Hallway Nature of Incident: [ ] - Workplace Hazard [ ] - Accident/Injury [ ] - Destruction of Property [ ] - Neglect of Duty [ ] - Harassment [X] - Assault [X] - Misconduct [X] - Terrorism Overview of the Incident: During the pre-announced visit of Unathi merchants for the festival on the listed date, Viggo Sook and Bryant Royston conspired to commit an act of terror against the crew, Unathi visitors, and waste station resources. At some point during the shift, Royston commented that he would be testing explosives involving nitroglycerin and other high explosives combined. These announcements were then followed by 2 alert messages from the Tachyon Doppler Array, indicating that the blasts had caused damaged to the station, or were at risk of doing so. He was then ordered by Command to cease testing explosives that were causing such alarms. Simultaneous to this, a shaft miner, Troy Woollard, became in distress, and later died. A manslaughter investigation was then begun to determine if the explosions were the cause of this, as he had been in the Mine when he was injured, which should not be affected by blasts from the test range. Some 5-10 minutes after this order was made, an alert came over the Tachyon Doppler Array that indicated the "Diner" (presumed to be kitchen area) was about to be impacted by a high explosive in 3 minutes. Crew were immediately evacuated to the fore end of the station, and into Cargo. After several minutes, there was no impact. At this point, Qoi Liuiq suggested to myself that we investigate the telecommunication logs to determine if the message was in fact sent from the proper channel. Myself, Qoi, and Darvan Omega then went to telecomms, at which point it was discovered that the message originated from a sapient lifeform - not from the automated system. At around this time, Officer Burns informed me that Viggo Sook had admitted to him that him and Royston had found a voice changer in maintenance earlier in the shift, then conspired together to fool the crew into thinking that there were two dangerous explosions on the test range, then that the kitchen and bar area were about to be destroyed by a large bomb. They did this by utilizing a voice changer to sound as if it were the TTS voice of the Tachyon Doppler Array on the Common channel. I immediately ordered both of their arrests, and issued warrants to that effect. Royston had just been released from questioning regarding the death of the miner by El-Hashem, as the autopsy was still underway. Royston refused an order to return to the brig and was then found by Officer Burns in the aft hallway. At this point a confrontation beyond just apprehending him began, and Officer Burns reportedly struck Royston several times, causing minor injuries, for which he was given a charge for minor assault. El-Hashem, Karimi, and Kalyna intervened. Kalyna held Royston down until I arrived to apprehend him properly. Due to the inbound transfer shuttle, we were rushed for time for full questioning regarding this incident, but I ordered them transferred to Odin holding temporarily. Submitted Evidence: N/A Would you like to be personally interviewed?: [X] - Yes [ ] - No Did you report it to a Head of Staff or a superior? If so, who? If not, why?: I was the superior Actions taken: Investigation was opened into the potential manslaughter of the miner. Royston and Sook were arrested and charged with hooliganism and making threats of murder/serious injury. Burns was charged with minor assault. This report. Additional Notes: While I had fully intended on making a report post-shift, on further thought into the matter, I believe their actions rise to the level of terrorism. The two of them caused a massive disruption to the crew, as well as fear and panic, as many of the crew feared that a serious disaster was about to occur. They also wasted station resources in the extended investigation, including into the manslaughter investigation, which at this point seems like it may have been an unfortunately timed accident as opposed to true manslaughter.
  21. I’m more inclined against it than neg it against it, but I do have some concerns that I share with Faye. Cacile seems like one of those characters that is basically used as an antagonist (in that they almost always are one). While there’s nothing wrong with that, the play with her leaves something to be desired, I feel. For example, a couple of days ago she was a merchant and drained the station account, running into the HoP during this process and having some short interaction with them, before vanishing into maintenance, never to be seen again outside of when they were reported walking into the Vault, which she had also already wordlessly cleaned out as well. In between those times it seems that she basically just holed up in her locked up ship, never interacting with anyone. Hell, I didn’t even know the merchant was there that round until I saw it while searching for carp and never got around to searching it because of the incident in the crusher 15-20 minutes later. In fact I recall you saying in dchat that round disappointment at not getting the account, Vault, and safe without being detected. Not being able to drive interaction/a story as an antag like that leaves me concerned for your ability in a command role
