BYOND Key: NewOriginalSchwann Character Names: Oh Christ, here we go again. Species you are applying to play: Skrell What color do you plan on making your first alien character: Pale white, in order to be relatable to the average gamer. Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes, of course. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this specific race: Well, I’ve got character ideas! Why else play a race? Skrell are one of the oldest factions in our lore and have a unique way of looking at the world, particularly A.I. and synthetic life (HAVE I TOLD YOU ABOUT GLORSH? THIS MAINTENANCE DRONE IS GOING TO TRY TO STERILIZE YOU), and can be found basically anywhere in the galaxy. One could just as easily play a skrell from Jargon as they could from Eridani or, Stars forbid, a skrell from Dominia. They’re easily one of the most diverse races you can play, aside from humanity and IPCs. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: In order to be a true rebel without a cause, I am going to make this into bullet points rather than a full paragraph. 1). Biologically, skrell have several differences from humans. They are physically smaller, amphibious, have a different dental structure that demands a different diet than humans, and lack advanced facial muscles. The most radical difference is their psionic abilities, which are considered illegal to utilize on non-consenting non-skrell. As a final note, skrell are able to “sense” the aura of living beings, to an extent. This makes shells stick out to them, something I am quite familiar with :^) I'm still mad even now. 2). The central skrellian government, the Jargon Federation, is an authoritarian regime that seeks to create the “ideal Jargon citizen” with its idea of idols and its enforcement of a post-Glorsh status quo. While not all skrell live in Jargon, the point remains one of difference from humanity. 3). The skrell are a species with a longer history than humanity that are more united and less warlike: while the defining moment in human history may very well be the First Interstellar War, the defining moment in skrellian history is Glorsh – an issue they created themselves, rather than an issue created by conflict between skrell. Character Name: Voq'Rav Noa-Vaxoz Backstory: Hatched in 2401 on the frosty world of Aliose, Noa-Vaxoz was genetically modified and boosted at a young age, in order to be adapted to the planet's harsh environment (though they remained infertile, as many skrell are), and quickly proved to be an eager young skrell. Instilled with a sense of patriotism and loyalty to the Federation's (authoritarian) ideas from a young age due to their life on Aliose, as Noa-Vaxoz gained a desire to become a protector of some type for the skrellian people. After finishing their basic schooling and moving onto university studies, Noa-Vaxoz decided to pursue degrees needed for a career in investigative security. What would have been defined loosely as "detective work" in human space took on another aspect for Noa-Vaxoz, as the skrell proved to be an adept listener rather than a receiver. The suspicion they gained from this was, in their eyes, unremarkable compared to their ability to passively observe the Srom around them. While not good enough at it to become a Sromkala, Noa-Vaxoz proved to be good at passive investigative work in the Srom and in the waking world. They found successful employment with a security agency on Aliose following a combined twenty years of education in criminology and forensic science - complete with some anatomical training in order to properly perform autopsies. After a few years of this posting, at the age of forty-two, Noa-Vaxoz realized that they weren't really going anywhere. They did their job well and all, but their connections weren't quite enough to move further up into their department. opted to seek their fortune elsewhere. Elsewhere, after a few months of searching, turned out to be human space. More specifically, it turned out to be the Eridani Corporate Federation - a place where the fact that mind reading doesn't really hold up in a formal court of law doesn't really matter when you're attempting to root out corporate spies. In 2344, Noa-Vaxoz began work as an internal investigator for a private security contractor on Oran. By 2456, they had acquired quite a reputation as an effective - though unorthodox - investigator that relied on their keen mind, excellent education, and skrellian psionics to accomplish their goals. They began to drift away from the Federation's ideals somewhat over the decade, but did that really matter? The Federation and it's ideals were distant, very distant, and Eridani was a place where one could rise the ranks if they were good enough, and more importantly a place that paid well. Life was good, and getting better. When Noa-Vaxoz's company was purchased by a subsidiary of NanoTrasen in late 2461, she was slated to be shipped off to another high-end facility with an issue of corporate espionage: the NSS Aurora, a "research" station in Tau Ceti owned by the company's new supervisors. As one of their best investigators, Noa-Vaxoz was picked to be assigned to the station and assured that it would be "completely safe" to work on. Time will tell how true that statement from their supervisor was. What do you like about this character? Well, I've never seen an Eridanian suit skrell! Aside from that, I enjoy the idea of a skrell that uses their psionic powers for more personal gains and has drifted away from the Federation somewhat after dwelling in human space for almost two decades now. Plus, the presence of a skrell that is something of a snooper while also remaining somewhat uninvolved with the Federation at large provides an interesting dynamic to the aftermath of the Federation's recent escapades on the station. Also I can avoid being slipped by space lube. How would you rate your role-playing ability? 7.4/10 I don’t do fear RP I just do ERP. Notes: Hibbety hoppety get off my property.

Removing Malfunctioning AI as a Gamemode
NewOriginalSchwann replied to geeves's topic in Completed Projects
Yeah, malf's great! I love gimmicks like stunning people and drag them through the tg-holdover cyborgification machine with no buildup (I've seen it happen to people after waking up from cryo), or using gravity slam on the AI upload chamber every ten seconds (pictured). I also love getting bolted into rooms that mysteriously begin venting, code delta at 1:59:00, and spamming recall on the emergency shuttle. Great fun! I would rather play any mode other than malf. Even worse is that it feels like the one full round I can normally play on weekdays is generally malf, and generally awful malf. It is absolute suffering. I have had one, perhaps two, good malf rounds that stand out of a veritable sea of garbage. I despise malfunction - it's the same awful song-and-dance every time I experience it: why are these doors shocked, please step onto the conveyor belt, robotics the borgs are acting weird, atmospherics disable AI control of the O2 loop, this unit has no laws, etc etc etc. Malf has soured my view of AI so much that, frankly, if a full removal of AI suggestion appeared I would probably support it. Fun Fact: My second round ever on Aurora was a malfunction round, and I was randomly APC gibbed at 1:45:00 while walking through a hallway. I then quit the server and did not return for almost eight months. -
UncleJo's Moderator Application
NewOriginalSchwann replied to Sheeplets's topic in Off Topic Discussion
I have some questions to see if you will be a good fit for the moderator team. There are no wrong responses here. 1). Did Thatcher have girl power? 2). Sfffjksfslnflsnafasfasf. Your response? 3). See image below -
My only criticism of Borya is that he undervalues himself. Without his assistance I would not have gotten half of what I get done finished, and would not even be on the team in the first place. Borya has been a steadfast coworker and somebody that is always willing to listen to my ideas, no matter how outlandish or spur-of-the-moment they may be.. He has been, arguably, serving as the human lore developer for several months now due to the inactivity of the previous holder of the position. In my admittedly biased eyes, he is the perfect fit for the position. He has my respect, and has proven that he can effectively work around my habit of running off in random directions with ideas I find interesting. However, it is my belief that my approval is not just enough. Thus, onto my questions. 1). A major issue with the previous human lore developer was inactivity. In the case that you must become inactive, how do you plan to deal with this? 2). How do you intend to coordinate with other lore developers? 3). If appointed to the position, when do you intend to open deputy applications? 4). If not appointed to the position, will you remain as a deputy? There are no wrong answers, and I look forward to your responses. Best of luck!

I prefer BRAINOS' work and am quite disappointed with the revelations that have resulted from this thread. As such, I support a full revert.

[ACCEPTED] WickedCybs - Command App
NewOriginalSchwann replied to WickedCybs's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Cybs is somebody I've known for a couple months now, and they've always been good at roleplaying. My rounds with Val as a CE have demonstrated that they understand the mechanical side of engineering, and that they can uphold the standards of a whitelist - I often see them helping new or struggling engineers as the round goes along. This application has my support, and I hope to see more of the doomer banana skrell as a chief engineer. -
I absolutely support Nienna's remap, having seen it in action in a few rounds. It's far, far better than what we have presently - people actually use the library as a gathering place under this design, in my experience with it.

As the person currently digging through Dominia's guts and ripping it apart, I am eager to see Shenaanigans' take on the often-maligned Empire. Most of my lore-related questions have been answered, so I just have two for you. 1). Do you intend to do anything with the Grim Compact at all? 2). How do you feel about potentially having to revoke a whitelist, if necessary? I look forward to your responses!

This is, as requested, a feedback thread over changing the sprites for aviators (for everyone) and the HUD sunglasses for security from Wezzy's updated version back to the classic sprites. I have attached a .png file comparing the new sprites by Wezzy (above) and the classic sprites I intend to revert them to when I stop banging my head against a wall in GitKraken and figure out these item conflicts. Originally, I simply intended to revert the aviators, but a discussion over Discord DMs has led me to include the HUDsunglasses in the revert as well. Admittedly, my main reason for this revert is my own aesthetic preferences - I will happily accept the new sprites if the community shows support for them here. The key differences between the revert and Wezzy's sprites are A). the revert restores the semi-transparent nature of the aviators and B). it makes the color pattern slightly different (for example, the security aviators go from green back to their classic blue). As a final note, my revert actually includes some new sprites. Namely, unique off states for the medical and engineering aviators.

I've seen them in-game, and I must admit that they look awful. Why did you make the aviators opaque? They're no different from HUDs now.

I've just started engineering and Rakt is already making me feel at home in it. Great character, good chief engineer. Keep wearing those swim trunks to work, and take my +1. -

Revert Garnascus' ruling on roundstart borer hosts.
NewOriginalSchwann replied to Kintsugi's topic in Rejected Policy
I hate the idea of having a brain-eating parasite in my head at round start when I don't have borer even ticked on. It's like getting randomly hit in the head with a sword, then having the sword man tell me I shouldn't live next to a HEMA club if I don't want to randomly get hit in the head with a sword while walking to work. Just make a role for borer host before this gets added to the secret rotation, so we don't have random people start with a slug in their head that don't want a slug in their head. This is the best possible solution, as I can prevent myself from spawning with a slug in my head if I don't want it and can get the creature of my nightmares in my brain at round-start if I so desire to. No other game mode forces you to be an antagonist in the manner of borer/bughunt/whathaveyou. I don't randomly end up as a cultist or changeling at round-start even though I have the option off, so why should this be any different? -
Swapping the "medical doctor" title for something along the lines of physician or general practitioner would be a change for the better, in my opinion. As for other specializations, I cannot think of anything at the moment. I'm a social scientist, not a medical professional (it was too expensive).

Please Nerf the Effects of Asteroid Turfs to Atmos
NewOriginalSchwann replied to BurgerBB's topic in Archive
I can. We had a round where a wizard fireballed one (1) tile, vented the medical lobby, and roughly six people died in the resulting venting/explosion (including the wizard). The ultimate death list was: Petra Volvalaad Head of Security Kylee Steele Chief Engineer Johan Ringer Warden Marianne Stymes Security Officer Veronika Kazlaukes Security Officer Skkukoas Ukazozu Medical Doctor Fatima Tadhhab Roboticist Ka'Akaix'Voa C'thur Scientist Daisy (Wizard) The pressure damage was so extreme that none of us were able to get our internals on or perform any first aid before being stuck in a cycle of faint from pain -> wake up for five seconds -> faint from pain-> wake up for five seconds -> faint from pain until after about six or seven goes of that we were unable to do anything, and all died. Engineering eventually managed to patch the hole, but it was too late for any of us at that point. -
[Accepted] YourDaddy117 IPC Application
NewOriginalSchwann replied to YourDaddy117's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Hey, you finally went and did it. Despite the odd ckey, 117 is one of the best roleplayers I knew, overall, on Baystation12. He played an officer role admirably and always worked to get people involved and interested. Furthermore, he is a huge Deus Ex nerd. I, personally, am excited to see what his take on IRUs is like and this application has my fully support. Best of luck! -

Good items for a good character played by a good roleplayer, despite the constant anime avatars. I have nothing to add other than my +1, really. -
Modular shields and rework tactical shields
NewOriginalSchwann replied to Faris's topic in Discontinued Projects
I like it a lot more than what we currently have. How long do you think it will take to remove a shielding panel, and how long would it be to install one?
